About the Opportunity:The SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER - DATABASES role centers on modernizing and maintaining the data layer of a critical radiology workflow platform. This position is responsible for refactoring complex SQL Server databases and improving data-access code to ensure fast, reliable, and secure delivery of medical imaging data to clinicians. The role contributes directly to clinical efficiency by enhancing the performance and maintainability of the database systems supporting patient care. Responsibilities:Lead comprehensive database refactoring within a large SQL Server schema using incremental, version-controlled migrations without disrupting clinical operations.Diagnose and optimize query performance using execution plans and effective indexing strategies.Migrate legacy data-access code to type-safe, well-tested repositories to improve maintainability and reliability.Enhance data security and reliability by implementing parameterization, locking, isolation, and diagnostic tracing.Develop tools and pipelines to automate database changes, testing, and deployment.Define and document SQL and data-access standards and contribute to technical architecture decisions.Mentor and collaborate with development teams to promote best practices and continuous learning. Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.Minimum of 7 years in professional software development, including at least 4 years focused on writing and refactoring database code for production systems.Expert proficiency in T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server features related to performance and security.Proven experience in incrementally refactoring large, legacy relational databases and associated application code in live environments.Proficiency in Kotlin or Java with backend frameworks such as Spring Boot.Experience with database migration/version control tools like Liquibase or Flyway within CI/CD pipelines.Strong understanding of concurrency, transactional integrity, and secure data-access practices.Experience working in agile teams using modern development and DevOps tools. Preferred qualifications include experience with type-safe SQL libraries (e.g., jOOQ), legacy code maintenance in PHP or C#, database testing methodologies, and SQL Server diagnostic tools.
