Senior Software Dev Engineer, GuardDuty

About the role

The Amazon GuardDuty team is seeking a senior software engineer to contribute to the development of advanced analytics and machine learning systems at AWS scale. The ideal candidate will collaborate with applied scientists and security researchers to bring research outcomes into production.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate large-scale, distributed security detection systems
• Collaborate with applied scientists and security researchers to transform research outcomes into scalable, production-ready systems
• Drive the full software development lifecycle, including scoping, planning, design, implementation, testing, documentation, deployment, and operational support
• Conduct design and code reviews, providing feedback on architecture, scalability, performance, and integration
• Operate in a highly available, customer-facing environment with on-call responsibilities (typically one week every two months)
• Contribute to building resilient systems that minimize operational load
• Participate in root cause analysis and long-term improvements to ensure operational excellence and reduce recurring issues

Requirements

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or above in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or related Science field, or experience implementing algorithms using both toolkits and self-developed code
• Knowledge of computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design, and problem solving
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud technology
• Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.
• Experience designing, building, operating, and managing large-scale distributed systems or web services
• Experience with security and systems that handle sensitive data
• Experience in ML and MLOps in production
