About the role

The Senior Siting Specialist is the senior level role for the Facilities Planning and Siting team at Pike Engineering. This role includes leading siting, environmental, and permitting processes for transmission, substation, and generation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures siting, environmental, and permitting activities comply with policies, practices, and standards of Pike as well as regulations and procedures.
  • Oversees environmental studies and permitting activities to meet in-service dates and ensure compliance.
  • Sources services to subcontractors, as necessary, related to siting, environmental, and permitting.
  • Leads multidisciplinary project teams to identify constructable, cost-effective routes and facilities minimizing environmental and land use impacts.
  • Serves as liaison between engineering, siting, permitting, and environmental project teams.
  • Reviews and approves siting, environmental, and permitting risks, tasks, scopes, and cost estimates.
  • Prepares and reviews siting and environmental evaluations, assessments, reports, and studies for facility projects.
  • Captures and manages regulatory and local zoning applications.
  • Develops and monitors schedules to complete siting, environmental and permitting tasks and manage identified risks.
  • Coordinates stakeholder meetings and public workshops.
  • Prepares testimony and testifies before federal, state and local agencies as an expert witness on behalf of client’s projects.
  • Organizes and facilitates project meetings related to siting, environmental and permitting.
  • Evaluates the impact of proposed legislation and regulations on transmission projects and provides input on the development process.
  • Establishes and fosters relationships within Pike and with clients, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Creates and improves standardization and process development.
  • Conducts visual impact assessments of proposed projects and prepares visual mitigation solutions.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Science or related field.
  • Experience: 7-10 years of experience in performing siting studies.
  • Preferred: Professional License – PE, PLA, PLS, and/or GISP.

Complexity of Work

Moderately routine: general policies applied. Some decision making.

Relationship Outside Work Group

Exchange of information, which occasionally requires tact and/or diplomacy. Supervisory Responsibilities: May act as Team Lead or Project Manager, taking charge of projects while not holding official supervisory responsibility over other employees.

Education and/or Experience

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or University in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Science or related field.
  • Experience: 7-10 Year(s) Experience in performing siting studies.
