Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Target.com Web Enablement
About the role
The Senior Site Reliability Engineer within Digital Enablement specializes in building and supporting platforms and tools that enable Target's digital product teams to deliver reliable, scalable digital experiences. Key responsibilities include translating architectural concepts into practical, resilient solutions, applying strong engineering patterns, providing technical guidance, influencing design and implementation decisions, and diagnosing and resolving complex issues in distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making
- Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies
- Manage total product, financials, and forecasting
- Lead the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services
- Lead and conduct code review, design review, testing, and debugging activities at the application level
- Lead functional design and architecture discussions
- Embed data quality protocols throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use
- Provide technical oversight and coach others to resolve complex and severe technical issues
- Lead disaster recovery activities and contribute to disaster recovery planning
Requirements
- BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 4+ years of software engineering experience, including operating applications at scale
- 2+ years of experience with CI/CD tooling and modern deployment practices
- 2+ years of experience working with major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Hands-on experience building, debugging, deploying, and scaling applications using technologies including Node.js, React, and Next.js
- Experience developing software and automation solutions using Bash, Node.js, and Go
- Experience containerizing applications and operating them on orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker
- Experience with observability tooling and practices, including log aggregation, metrics visualization, and distributed tracing
- Basic understanding of caching, traffic routing, and disaster recovery strategies at the edge
- Familiarity with source control and versioning tools such as Git
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to demonstrate technical leadership
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- Core qualifications include a BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience, 4+ years of software engineering experience, and 2+ years of experience with CI/CD tooling and major cloud platforms.
Skills
- Knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized areas of the technology domain
- Experience with Kubernetes and GitHub Actions
- Experience with caching and traffic-routing technologies, including Fastly
- Experience conducting advanced metrics analysis, including anomaly detection
- Experience implementing progressive deployment strategies such as canary, blue/green, or red/black deployments
- Experience with security best practices, including encryption, certificate management, and secrets/key management
- Awareness of emerging technologies and trends in reliability engineering, observability, and cloud platforms

Pay
The pay range is $98,000.00 - $176,000.00, based on several factors including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications. For more details, see the benefits eligibility page.
Schedule
This position operates as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement, requiring the team member to be available both onsite at the Target HQ MN location and virtually, depending on the day's requirements.
