Senior Shopify Architect

About the role

Must be eligible to work in the U.S without sponsorship. Preference for candidates based in Chicago, NY, Atlanta, Boston, and all East Coast areas. Preference for candidates working in EST or CST time zones.

Responsibilities

• Interface with internal teams and clients to provide technical solutions.
• Support client development teams with less Shopify experience.
• Perform oversight and hands‑on work, including coding and code reviews.
• Spend approximately 70% of time on hands‑on coding.

Requirements

• Shopify & Headless Architecture: Strong experience delivering Shopify Plus solutions using headless architecture; deep expertise with Shopify Hydrogen (Remix‑based) and custom headless storefronts; advanced understanding of Storefront and Admin GraphQL APIs; experience designing and consuming GraphQL‑first data models and workflows.
• Frontend Engineering: Advanced proficiency in React with TypeScript; strong understanding of modern frontend patterns (SSR, streaming, caching, performance optimization); experience building scalable component systems and frontend architecture for commerce.
• Backend & Integrations: Proven experience building and integrating custom Shopify apps (Node.js‑preferred); hands‑on experience integrating Shopify with ERP, OMS, WMS, PIM, CMS, and third‑party SaaS platforms; experience with authentication models, webhooks, background jobs, and event‑driven architecture.
• Commerce & Platform Expertise: Strong understanding of Shopify commerce concepts (products, variants, collections, pricing, discounts, inventory, orders, fulfillment); experience with Shopify configuration, instance management, and multi‑store/multi‑region setups; familiarity with data migration and synchronization strategies across platforms.

Qualifications

• Must Have: 5+ years of experience in modern ecommerce or digital product development; prior experience migrating legacy or monolithic commerce platforms to headless Shopify; experience with Remix, Next.js, or other modern React frameworks; comfortable evaluating and adopting emerging web and commerce technologies.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with composable commerce principles and MACH; strong collaboration skills working with product, UX, and solution architecture teams.
