YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter high school dedicated to supporting youth aged 17-20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. Our 1-year alternative program fosters a warm, loving culture through restorative justice, community meetings, and school-wide service projects. We empower students to earn their high school diploma and vocational certifications while providing unconditional support to help them achieve post-secondary success in college, vocational training, or livable-wage employment.

About the role

The Senior Seminar teacher will create a positive, relationship-centered learning environment across four sections of Senior Seminar. You will design learner-centered lessons that help students develop transferable competencies and professional skills, culminating in individualized post-secondary plans. By tracking progress, offering feedback, and collaborating with cross-departmental teams, you will play a key role in each student’s success.

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive learning environment built on strong relationships.
  • Design learner-centered lessons for four sections of Senior Seminar, focusing on transferable competencies and culminating in students’ post-secondary plans.
  • Use instructional strategies where student voice and thinking are the primary focus.
  • Develop learning experiences that emphasize professional skills (e.g., teamwork, resilience, high-quality work).
  • Collaborate with the specialized services team to ensure student success, including attending IEP meetings and providing accommodations.
  • Track student progress, provide actionable feedback, and communicate updates via PowerSchool.
  • Facilitate one section of independent study hall daily, fostering a structured, supportive environment for academic focus.
  • Work in inter-departmental teams to support student cohorts through the program.
  • Participate in a collaborative school culture requiring strong interpersonal skills and flexibility.
  • Mentor a cohort of 4–5 students, offering academic and personal support to help them meet graduation requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s Degree strongly preferred).
  • Three to five years’ teaching experience (preferred).
  • Current Social Studies 7-12 certification; special education certification, background, or experience is a plus.

Pay

New YouthBuild teachers can expect a starting salary of $60,000–$68,000 annually, based on experience, education, and certifications.

Schedule

Full-time, 10-month position.
