Senior Scientist – Sensing and Communications (302)
Responsibilities
- Support development, management, and execution of a number of ongoing and future programs pertaining to areas of innovative maritime systems.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the Sensing and Communications Department.
- Lead preparation of, and contribute to, multidisciplinary proposals related to developing novel maritime technology solutions.
- Lead cross-functional teams to address complex system design challenges, while satisfying rigorous design requirements.
- Provide oversight, development, and mentoring to junior staff in both execution and management of their tasks.
- Support the design and execution of at-sea experiments
Required Attributes and Skills
- An MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, or a related technical discipline with 5 or more years of related engineering experience.
- Experience supporting and partnering with senior technical staff to develop innovative technology solutions that meet customer/user needs.
- Ability to technically contribute to and lead a variety of complex technical tasks at a detailed level.
- Excellent communication and interaction skills with project managers, IPT leads, and customers.
- Experience with the design or use of acoustic communication systems.
- Working knowledge of digital and analog circuits
Desired Attributes and Skills
- An MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, or a related technical discipline with 10 or more years of experience in proposing, planning, and executing technology development programs.
- Experience successfully managing multiple multidisciplinary technical programs, with responsibilities including scheduling, budgeting, resource coordination, and accountability for deliverables. Alternatively, experience with US Navy undersea warfare leadership and operations.
- Experience contributing to and leading programs through various stages along the technology lifecycle, from science and technology to research, development and deployment.
- Experience designing complex undersea systems with custom PCB’s, embedded software, and data acquisition, and signal processing.
