About the Role

Responsible for development, scale-up, and tech transfer of new Oral Solid and Oral Liquid products to the Hobart site, and other sites as needed, from internal R&D and from external Pharma companies or purchased ANDAs. The Senior Scientist, Product & Process Technology will use problem-solving techniques to resolve process difficulties, reduce waste, improve productivity and safety, and assist in training. The role provides technical support to site operations, maintenance, and manufacturing personnel for supported processes, investigates new technologies, and assists in product development. The candidate will interact with R&D and provide Manufacturing Site feedback during development of formulation/process for New Products/Reformulated Products.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Transfer of Acquired Products – Manage and support technical transfer of R&D products, including hands-on packaging engineering activities (bottle sizing/blisters) for new products transferring into the site.
  • Ensure all Tech Transfer project milestones are met within Hobart site control.
  • Develop, write, and review protocols and reports for Product Characterization, Tech Transfer, Exhibit/Registration, and Validation batches.
  • Complete statistical analysis of data and develop/write product manufacturing instructions.
  • Initiate and execute action items for OOS, Change Controls, CAPAs, and FMEAs.
  • Support new process start-ups, including equipment and process development.
  • Apply knowledge of materials sciences for solid and liquid dosage formulation characterization and scale-up projects.
  • Manage development activities to ensure projects meet schedule requirements.
  • Use problem-solving techniques to resolve manufacturing issues, reduce cost, waste, and improve quality for existing processes.
  • Meet supply chain KPIs for Internal Commercial Products.
  • Develop, write, and execute development protocols for existing products and new product transfers.
  • Provide technical leadership for productivity improvement and cost reduction projects.
  • Review process changes to improve operation, reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Serve as the primary resource for resolving technical process issues and support productivity improvements through process upgrades.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics or Industrial Pharmacy with 5 years of industrial experience in Tech Transfer, Tech Services, and Packaging Engineering activities of Oral Solids and Oral Liquids; or MS in Pharmaceutics, Industrial Pharmacy, Engineering, or Chemistry with 10 years of industrial experience in the same areas.
  • Hands-on experience in packaging engineering, tech transfers, and process/packaging validation.
  • Capability to write and execute protocols, reports for Continuous Improvement, Alternate Suppliers, Process Characterization, Scale-Up/Scale-Down, and Process/Packaging Validation.
  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and execution of Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA).
  • Knowledge of DOE, statistical techniques for data analysis, total quality management, and Six Sigma in manufacturing.
  • Strong communication skills to manage projects effectively, including directing and motivating cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot pharmaceutical operating equipment and support equipment for oral solids and oral liquids.
  • Experience in OOS investigations, change controls, CAPAs, and FMEAs.

Skills

  • Black Belt (Six Sigma), Lean, or similar skills preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Understanding of solid and liquid pharmaceutical formulations and hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • Strong technical and mathematical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, statistical analysis (Minitab), and database usage.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary, complex, and time-sensitive projects.
  • Superior troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively manage conflict.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to train, mentor, and develop others.

Organizational Relationships

This position requires interaction with various internal and external department heads, the Site Leadership Team, and all domestic and foreign Pharmaceutical facilities. Reports to the Manager of Product Development and directly supports multiple teams.

Working Conditions

Work will be performed in office areas, production floor, relevant laboratories, and the R&D headquarters site. Potential exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and equipment. Occasional travel may be required.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this position is $139,000 – $169,000. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is also eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable program, awarded at the Company’s discretion.
