About the role

We are seeking a Senior Scientist II to join our PhysChem team. This role supports Performance & Care Techno Programs, Corporate R&I Platforms, market lab roadmap/VCP projects, defines and advises mode of action for key technologies, and provides subsequent customer support and manufacturing developments.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and adhere to Company safety policies and procedures for the site and the lab.
  • Execute research projects and respond to customer/stakeholder needs.
  • Prepare and handle samples, reagents and laboratory materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab, including proper disposal of waste.
  • Record and analyze data accurately, maintain detailed and up-to-date lab records in ELN following Syensqo policies.
  • Acquire and analyze research data within your own domain of expertise and process them in a way useful for the research hypotheses or goals.
  • Define technical scope and targets for the different projects and independently translate them into an optimal set of R&D experiments.
  • Technology transfers to business/market labs and other stakeholders.
  • Advice and support to external and/or internal customers.
  • Technical reports, presentations and oral communication to the stakeholders.
  • Technical IP support and patents.
  • Contribute to the mission of the Phys Chem Cell to decipher the relationship between molecular architecture and application properties of polymers and surfactants, including characterization of their interactions and self assemblies, to guide new product development with established and emerging chemistries.
  • Develop and contribute to the core competency of Rheology of viscoelastic systems at the center, including but not limited to sustainable biobased/biodegradable polymers in solution such as novel hydrogels.
  • Characterize polymer/surfactant solution structure and rheology relationships and develop computational models to describe the rheological behavior.
  • Develop a mechanistic understanding to fine tune the chemical structures and/or to direct formulation and position new chemicals in the targeted application fields.
  • Exchange information with others in an oral and written way, to adapt the communication to specific audiences, and to use appropriate tools and means.
  • Mentor, manage or supervise other junior researchers, team members, scientists or student interns or temporary employees.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. with 0-5+ yrs of experience.
  • Demonstrated background, in-depth knowledge and experience specialized in rheology of complex fluids along with at least one of the key domains of the Group: physical chemistry of soft matter and formulation science, physics, chemistry, polymers/materials science and technology, chemical engineering, analytical sciences & characterization or a related multidisciplinary field.
  • Additional experience in computational modeling of rheology of fluids and data-science to further the understanding of complex systems would be preferred.
  • Multiple publications in peer reviewed journals and/or patents in the above fields.
  • The ability to autonomously contribute to a project as a team member or leader, in a successful and effective way, making optimal use of available resources and applicable concepts, methods and tools.
  • Expert knowledge of experimental tools, models and techniques in at least one of the key domains.
  • Experience in advanced characterization techniques such as SAXS/WAXS/Diffraction, scattering DLS/ SLS, SANS and microscopy would be preferred.
  • Track record of supervising or mentoring other research team members, scientists or students.

Competitive salary and benefits package
U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $99,000 to $120,000 per year.
Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
