About the role
The Senior Scientist I - Bioinformatics, Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine position within Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine (BGM) at AbbVie is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing data capture workflows and dynamic visualization dashboards for biologics discovery.
Responsibilities
- Independently design digital workflows or tools to streamline biologics discovery and evaluate improvements in operational efficiency
- Identify, champion and test software solutions that map to the needs of BGM
- Proactively identify scientist needs that further our digital transformation strategy and propose solutions to meet them
- Pilot new software and AI tools to evaluate utility for BGM and train others on how to use them
- Design and implement standard analyses and visualizations that balance customization and increased efficiency
- Represent BGM to Informatics and external software vendor providers as a technical and strategy expert
- Collaborate across groups with different priorities and drive toward alignment
- Understand and communicate nuance of wet-lab workflows to enable integrated, harmonized data capture and champion data stewardship
- Proactively communicate roadblocks and identify potential paths forward
- Communicate impact at internal and external forums
Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in a related scientific discipline or bioinformatics with typically 10+ (BS), 8+ (MS), or 0-3 (PhD) years of experience
- Strong foundational knowledge of molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and genetics
- Hands-on experience in a biology or biochemistry lab setting
- Hands-on experience with commonly used bioinformatics tools and platforms (e.g., SnapGene, Geneious, Genedata Biologics, Pipebio, Benchling)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, SQL, and at least one other programming language (e.g. Python, or R)
- Demonstrated expertise in retrieving, preprocessing, and managing large datasets from databases
- Proven ability to develop interactive data visualizations and dashboards (experience with Power BI, Tableau, D3.js, or Spotfire preferred)
- Experience with CRO data management/data standardization
- Experience with the integration and automation of laboratory instrumentation for data acquisition
- Ability to prioritize based on evolving needs and reach consensus among stakeholders
Preferred
- Practical experience utilizing relevant programming libraries and frameworks for custom application development (such as Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Streamlit)
- Familiarity with the antibody or genetic medicine R&D and drug discovery process

- Compensation range: $96,500 - $183,500 USD
