Roles and Responsibilities

• Research, conceptualize, and develop AI solutions for hard industrial problems
• Lead projects and collaborate with teams of peer researchers on new and continuing projects ensuring alignment with strategic objectives
• Work independently as well as guide development of new technologies to demonstrate and realize value of AI through early prototypes and solutions for real-world problems
• Mentor early-career researchers to be effective in project execution and support their technical growth
• Employ software libraries, tools, and practices to implement efficient, scalable, and reusable solutions
• Create intellectual property by writing invention disclosures and filing patents
• Publish research work in peer-reviewed conferences and journals
• Write grant proposals and support execution of R&D programs

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields and a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a focus on Artificial Intelligence
• OR MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields with a minimum of 8 years of work experience with a focus on Artificial Intelligence
• Demonstrated ability to write Python code and hands-on development of AI solutions
• Demonstrated ability to lead AI projects
• Familiarity with GenAI packages including models from OpenAI, Google, Meta, etc. and ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters' level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Desired Characteristics

• Completed PhD focused on new advancements in Artificial Intelligence
• Experience in one or more of: (a) Multi-Modal Foundation Models with image, text, tabular data, and/or time-series data, (b) Integrating generative AI with knowledge graphs and graph-based reasoning, and (c) Integrating physics and domain knowledge in scalable machine learning solutions.
• Strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders to define problems worth solving and to share progress and outcomes
• Experience in leading research efforts and collaborating with researchers
• Experience in writing grant proposals and participating in the execution of grant-supported research; includes demonstrated successful communication with government agencies such as DoE, ARPA-E, DoD, and DARPA
• Contribution to public domain codebases and/or significant GitHub portfolio
