Senior Scientific Advisor (Health Scientist)
This position is being filled under a streamlined hiring authority (21 U.S. Code § 379d-3a) and will be a career or career-conditional appointment paid under Title 21 Pay Table 1, Band D (equivalent to GS-14).
About the Role
The Senior Scientific Advisor (Health Scientist) will serve in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Human Foods Program (HFP), Nutrition Center of Excellence (NCE). The NCE provides expert advice to senior human foods leadership and other FDA officials, directing major FDA initiatives, policies, and strategies related to nutrition, food labeling, and critical foods.
Qualifications
To qualify for this 0601 occupational series position, you must meet the following requirements by 11:59 PM EST on 08/21/2026:
Basic Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or graduate/higher-level degree in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
Minimum Years of Experience Requirements (in addition to the basic requirements):
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of comparable experience interpreting and conducting complex nutrition-related research, data, and science; participating in or leading research partnerships; and translating scientific findings into regulatory or public health policy or programs.
- Master’s degree and 4 years of comparable experience as described above.
- Doctorate or JD degree and 2 years of comparable experience as described above.
- MD, DO, DDS, DPM, or DVM degree and 2 years of comparable experience as described above.
- 7 years of comparable experience as described above (without a degree).
