About the role

You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. Along the way, we guarantee that you will learn a lot, have fun and make a positive impact on tens of millions of people.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build software to automate hardware test systems
  • Develop software infrastructure to support test case execution
  • Architect and build automation to support development (CI/CD)
  • Align with various stakeholders on software requirements
  • Document software requirements from users
  • Support manufacturing as well as new product development
  • Enable automated data collection, data analysis
  • Deliver end-user documents
  • Own and execute software quality and release process
  • Work with electrical test equipment

A day in the life: This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and hardware validation. You don't need to be an RF engineer, but you should be comfortable reading a datasheet, understanding what a pass/fail threshold means physically, and asking hardware engineers the right questions to translate their intent into automated test logic. You spend most of your day writing Python that tests satellite hardware before it goes to space. Some days that's building a new test case to catch a failure mode we saw on-orbit. Other days it's debugging why a production rack isn't reporting telemetry correctly, or designing the automation that lets a factory operator run 12 units through environmental stress testing with a single click. You'll work closely with RF and hardware engineers who define what "good" looks like for a given component -- then you figure out how to measure it reliably, repeatedly, at production scale. Your code runs on Linux test racks in our manufacturing facilities, talks to instruments over SCPI, controls thermal chambers, and reports results to dashboards that drive ship/no-ship decisions.

The team supports design validation test, space qualification test, and production test of spacecraft gigabit speed modems, millimeter-wave amplifiers, frequency converters and LNAs. They like to leverage and share work across the entire organization as well as utilize AWS resources and tools to accelerate their work.
