Essential Functions
- Performs and tracks daily pre and post trip equipment inspection to ensure optimum operation and safe performance of vehicle.
- Maintains and ensures a clean and functional vehicle by washing, brushing, and cleaning the truck's interior; facilitates professional image and safe and sanitary conditions and supports lower level staff in the care and maintenance of equipment.
- Keeps, updates, and maintains activity logs, mileage, and maintenance records by documenting odometer readings before and after driving vehicle to provide accountability of vehicle's usage.
- Inspects and investigates solid wastes being loaded and unloaded to prevent hazardous content from being disposed of improperly in the landfill.
- Schedules, coordinates, and provides senior level support to truck drivers; delivers leadership, training, and professional development to employees operating trucks for the city.
- Performs work in inclement weather and remains always on call in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency.
- Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge And Skills
- Knowledge of hazards, safety rules, and regulations applicable to the operation of large tractor-trailer vehicles and other heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to operate trailer-truck combination and other automotive equipment in a skillful and safe manner.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to utilize and comprehend maps depicting city streets and blocks.
- Communicating effectively and in writing.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience operating tractor-trailers.
- Licenses: Valid driver's license with good driving record. Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of application.
Other Requirements
- Applicants with a Class A CDL, issued by a state other than Texas, must obtain a Texas Class A CDL within probationary period.
- Must pass background check.
- Subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) call-out.
- Subject to inclement weather and toxic materials.
- Availability to work various shifts (days, evenings, nights).
