Senior Sales Tax Analyst
About the role
The Senior Sales Tax Analyst supports the organization’s sales and use tax function with a primary focus on compliance for the auto leasing business. This role plays a key part in the monthly collection, reporting, and remittance of sales tax, while helping to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across a multi-jurisdiction footprint.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the monthly compliance process of collecting, reporting, and remitting state and local sales tax returns associated with auto leasing business.
- Resolve tax issues with auto dealerships when originating leases.
- Develop and maintain an efficient process for sales & use tax compliance.
- Manage communication with external auditors and assist with managing the audits process.
- Research sales & use tax laws, regulations, and court cases.
- Aid in the identification, research, and implementation of tax savings/refund opportunities.
- Support and maintain the Indirect Tax email inbox.
- Validate exemption certificates from customers and supply exemptions certificates to vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in Sales Tax.
- Minimum three (3) years’ tax audit and/or equivalent experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
- Strong effective analytical skills and reasoning.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask effectively.
- Effective written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Projects a teamwork spirit while balancing individual responsibilities.
- Capable of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines, including the ability to coordinate and balance numerous tasks in a time-sensitive fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to identify issues and generate creative solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Preferred: Experience within the financial services industry in either a Fortune 500 company or a national/regional public accounting firm.
- Preferred: Experience in captive auto leasing or leasing platforms/environment.
