About the role

The Senior Safety Specialist supports and manages the site’s environmental, health, and safety programs. This position ensures compliance with applicable regulations, fosters a culture of safety, and continuously improves health and safety performance across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards; support departments in implementing and evaluating control measures.
  • Deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors to ensure awareness of regulations, standards, and safe work practices.
  • Support the administration of the incident reporting and management system, ensuring accurate documentation of accidents, near misses, and other HSE events.
  • Participate in workplace incident investigations, assist in root cause analysis, and help implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collect and analyze safety data to identify trends and prepare reports for management review.
  • Maintain compliance documentation, safety records, and reporting requirements as directed.
  • Carry out regular inspections and audits to support compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations.
  • Assist in the development and execution of emergency preparedness activities, including evacuation drills and coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and the implementation of EHS best practices.
  • Serve as a technical resource and provide guidance to employees on safety-related matters.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness through ongoing communication, employee engagement, and day-to-day support.
  • Aid in the review and communication of EHS policies and procedures, ensuring they are understood and followed across the organization.
  • Support EHS program development and ongoing management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety management or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and overseeing EHS programs in a manufacturing, industrial, or comparable environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant local, state, and federal compliance requirements.
  • Proven expertise in risk assessment, compliance monitoring, audits, and incident investigation.
  • Experience with emergency preparedness planning, drills, and coordination with external agencies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret EHS data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Experience within the metals or chemical industries is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • Must be willing and physically able to work in varying cold and heat situations.
  • Could have times that are prolonged periods of walking, standing, and bending.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Able to travel throughout the facility as required to conduct audits and make observations.
  • Must wear all required PPE when in protected areas.
  • Required to reach and grasp with hands and reach with arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to travel domestically and/or internationally if requested.
