About the role
Join Roche's Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Department as a Senior SHE Specialist and make a meaningful impact on workplace safety and environmental stewardship.
Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate risks to employee safety and the environment while establishing robust controls to mitigate those hazards.
- Work collaboratively across the R&D department and throughout the business to leverage detailed analysis, expert problem-solving skills, and extensive SHE expertise to protect our employees, our environment, and Roche's right to operate.
- Execute and evaluate SHE risk assessments, including job hazard assessments, equipment safety evaluations, PPE assessments, and ergonomic risk assessments.
- Interpret regulatory and technical documents, drive compliance, and protect our workforce with a background in chemistry, electrochemistry, or microbiology.
- Provide SHE business partner support for the R&D department of a dynamic medical diagnostic device company.
- Lead or facilitate investigation of SHE incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions to reduce risk of recurrence.
- Develop, review, and revise SHE programs through technical writing to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Manage action plans to ensure incident follow-up is complete, effective, and timely.
- Prepare, coordinate, and conduct regular SHE-related meetings, inspections, and training sessions.
- Maintain comprehensive SHE documentation, incident databases, injury and illness records, and required permits in accordance with compliance standards.
- Develop metrics, summaries, and communications to provide accurate and timely reporting of SHE-related data and trend analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, or related technical field with minimum 8 years of dedicated professional SHE experience.
- Extensive experience in highly regulated and science-driven industries (e.g., medical device, clinical diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, or R&D environments).
- Demonstrated expertise in medical device R&D environments, including biosafety, bloodborne pathogens, chemical hygiene, and preferred background in chemistry, electrochemistry, or microbiology.
- Proven ability to autonomously manage complex SHE projects, lead incident response and management, interpret regulatory and technical documents, and develop business-wide SHE programs in matrixed organizations.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with expert ability to manage complex workloads, deliver high-quality work with meticulous attention to detail, and work effectively on cross-functional teams with positive energy and sense of urgency.

Pay
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $73,000 - $135,600 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
