Job Summary

The Senior Safety Engineer manages, maintains, and implements the company's health, safety and environmental program. This position requires frequent interaction with all staff members and subcontractors to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Periodically back-fills for Safety Managers.

Salary Range

  • SALARY RANGE: $120,000 - $145,000 annually (companywide)

Qualifications

  • Must have a degree in Safety Management, Engineering or Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene and/or a minimum of 2 years of progressive construction safety experience
  • Must have Fed OSHA Construction 30-Hour Certification or will have it within 30 days of hire
  • Must demonstrate problem solving and teamwork skills
  • Must have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner
  • Must show a proven track record of maintaining a comprehensive construction safety and health program with a proactive approach to safety management and accident prevention/reduction
  • Must have documented experience in conducting accident investigations/reporting and resolution coordination, performing job hazard and safety analysis, hazard communications and ensuring appropriate selection of abatement control measures
  • Knowledgeable of fall protection, hazardous energy controls, electrical safety, permit-required confined spaces, trenching, cranes and rigging, scaffolding, demolition safety processes
  • Must have the computer skills needed to maintain OSHA 300 logs, graph incident rates, and prepare PowerPoint training and safety meetings
  • Competent person training in the Focus Four, OSHA 500, Rigging, CHST Certification is a plus
  • Must achieve and maintain the following certifications:
    • EPA Asbestos Inspector/ Contractor Supervisor
    • Competent Person Training Trench/Excavation, Fall Protection, Scaffolds
    • HAZWOPER 29 CFR 1910.120 with annual refresher
    • 40-hour Industrial Hygiene Fundamentals course every five years
    • OSHA 500 training every four years
    • CPR/First Aid training as prescribed

Physical Demands

  • Capable of traversing over construction-type terrain when under development
  • Moving through the construction site and the materials in place for use on the site
  • Climbing ladders and temporary stairways
  • Conducting visual inspections of quality of construction and materials being used in construction
  • Conducting jobsite walks to ensure successful project completion
  • Conducting jobsite walks to identify and eliminate safety hazards

  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at the job site.
