Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer - Construction, Start-Up and Commissioning - FLNG Projects

About the role

This role provides leadership and expertise in rotating and packaged equipment for LNG projects. The position requires hands-on experience with design, installation, start-up, and commissioning of various equipment such as centrifugal and positive displacement compression, pumping, and other oil and gas, chemical, and industrial packaged equipment. This role supports construction, start-up, and commissioning work for on-shore LNG and off-shore FLNG, including office-based support and travel to shipyards and production sites globally. Between LNG and FLNG assignments, support may be requested for other process industries including Ammonia, Urea, Nitric Acid, Hydrogen, CO2 Carbon Capture, or Simple or Combined Cycle power projects in construction, start-up, pre-commissioning, or commissioning roles.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer rotating equipment systems suitable for design needs to ensure reliable, cost-effective, and efficient operation.
  • Select and implement appropriate designs for machinery auxiliary systems such as mechanical seal systems, lube oil systems, steam turbine auxiliary systems, and combustion turbine auxiliary systems.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to select the most technically acceptable design solutions.
  • Utilize leading and current technologies in the development of designs.
  • Prepare equipment cost estimating and manhours for FEED phase.
  • Prepare rotating equipment data sheets, technical specifications for bid and purchase.
  • Perform bid clarifications/meetings with bidders and prepare technical bid evaluations/summary for equipment.
  • Review, interpret, and include client technical specifications in the bid and purchase specifications.
  • Lead and coordinate meetings with internal disciplines, external consultants, client, contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in client project meetings.
  • Conduct meetings with the rotating equipment team working on the project.
  • Assist juniors to develop their rotating equipment skills.
  • Perform pre-inspection meetings, shop surveillance, attend inspections and testing on rotating equipment and auxiliary systems in vendor’s shop.
  • Participate in design and model reviews, HAZOP reviews, constructability reviews, etc.
  • Perform vendor drawing reviews.
  • Develop construction sub-contracts for rotating equipment and other mechanical equipment.
  • Provide on-site support and troubleshoot for construction and pre-commissioning works at FLNG shipyards.
  • Provide on-site support and troubleshooting for commissioning works at FLNG production locations.

Travel Expectations

  • Domestic and global travel required: North America, Western Europe, China, India, South Korea – varies by year; 10% to 60% travel time possible depending on construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning schedules.
  • Short-term field assignments and site rotations expected (30 days).
  • Longer-term field assignments (1 to 2 years at shipyard) are a possibility.

Management Responsibilities

  • Supervises work of others.
  • Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of subordinates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the USA and/or Professional Engineering in Canada.
  • Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in LNG, FLNG, and gas processing projects.
  • Experience working in Ammonia and Urea plant projects.
  • Experience working in Hydrogen generation and compression projects.
  • Experience in selecting and working with all types of pumps in oil & gas and chemical process and ammonia industries.
  • Experience in selecting and working with centrifugal and PD gas compressors in oil & gas and ammonia industries.
  • Experience in working with steam turbines for mechanical drive and generators.
  • Experience working with refrigeration compressors and combustion turbines.
  • Experience working with gas expanders and pumps in cryogenic service.
  • Experience in hydrogen compressor applications.
  • Experience with machinery control system requirements, compressor anti-surge protection and performance PLC systems, turbine governor & overspeed trip PLC systems, and machine health monitoring systems.
  • Experience in purchasing equipment to API 610, 611, 612, 613, 614, 616, 617, 618, 619, 682, 692, 671, 677, 673, 674, 675, 676, 685, 686, 541, 546 standards.
  • Experience in purchasing equipment to NEMA SM23, IEEE 841, ASME PTC-10, ASME PTC 6 Codes & Standards.
  • Familiar with static equipment & heater API standards and ASME codes.
  • Experience in specifying equipment for NACE service and interpreting NACE MR 0175 & NACE MR 0103 standards.
  • Experience attending rotating equipment performance and mechanical run tests in vendor’s shop and interpreting the test data.
  • Experience in writing Rotating Equipment API overlay specifications.
  • Experience in material and component selection for rotating equipment.
  • Experience working on projects from early conceptual to detailed engineering and on to project start-up and operations support.
  • Experience in the role of lead Rotating Equipment Engineer on larger projects.
  • Mentoring skills and experience working with and encouraging junior staff.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience handling multiple jobs/projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Experience in the role of Mechanical Lead Engineer on projects (added advantage).
  • Experience in rotating equipment installation, commissioning, and start-up support at site (added advantage).
  • Experience in working in offshore fixed platform and floating vessel projects (added advantage).
  • Experience in workshare with India office and other country offices (added advantage).
  • Experience in both NEC and IEC Electrical and Instrumentation Standards (added advantage).
