Senior Risk Management Specialist
Role & Responsibilities
- Review, negotiate, and advise on prime and subconsultant terms (including indemnity, standard of care, limitation of liability, flow-down, ownership of documents, warranties)
- Evaluate contract-specific insurance obligations, confirm coverage availability, and advise on pricing when supplemental coverage is required
- Oversight of subconsultant Certificate of Insurance (COI) collection and tracking (e.g., Trustlayer), ensuring limits match Burns' contractual obligations
- Own and improve the contract review workflow, clause libraries, and the Copilot Contract Review Agent
- Cross-functional partnership with Project Managers, Project Accounting, and Business Development; support go/no-go and fee-development decisions
- Lead PM training on contractual and insurance risk
- Build the function's capacity as volume grows, supervise and develop risk staff
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's (or equivalent) with 7+ years of contract administration, contract management, or risk management experience
- Strong command of corporate insurance programs within a professional services and/or architecture and engineering (A&E) environment
- Experience reviewing and negotiating engineering, architectural, and design-professional contracts strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate directly with clients and brokers and to prioritize in a high-volume environment
- Prioritized ability to manage competing demands in a high-volume environment
- Previous people leadership, supervisory, or mentoring experience
Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
