PG&E’s Electric Transmission & Distribution ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The team is responsible for the reliability and resiliency of PG&E’s 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of transmission lines. Coworkers actively engage in Lean Methodology, using visual management in operating reviews to cross-functionally identify and solve problems.

About the role

Provides engineering, testing, and analysis services across multiple disciplines to identify, diagnose, and solve technical problems. Offers consultation to clients to proactively avoid future issues. Conducts inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and evaluations on a wide variety of systems and components. Partners with management to create bid proposals for client work. This position focuses on risk modeling and management and is hybrid, working remotely and onsite as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides coaching and oversight to lower-level peers, reviewing test designs for applicability, feasibility, and alignment with project objectives.
  • Determines customer expectations and ensures project deliverables meet satisfaction objectives.
  • Expands knowledge in other specialty areas or deepens expertise in a specific discipline.
  • Leads complex and innovative tests with assistance from higher-level peers.
  • Completes broad-scope assignments with few precedents, integrating information from multiple sources.
  • Performs a lead role in determining project scope, schedule, budget, and resources.
  • Oversees assembly of technical systems and prototypes according to engineering standards, correcting functional deviations.
  • Develops test protocols, models, and technologies; analyzes data and evaluates performance under simulated conditions.
  • Compiles test results and prepares presentations or recommendations for clients and leadership.
  • May represent PG&E at industry association meetings or seminars.
  • Prepares estimates for client bid proposals with oversight from senior peers and leadership.
  • Prepares technical reports and specifications to identify, define, and solve problems.
  • Modifies prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations and executes testing or process improvements.
  • Identifies innovations and cost-reduction opportunities in new and existing technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical, civil, electrical, or related discipline).
  • 5 years of job-related experience.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience (desired).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (desired).
  • Travel required (10%–75%, depending on assignment).
  • Strong expertise in modeling, statistical, and machine learning approaches.

Pay

Bay Area salary range: $122,000 – $194,000. The actual salary will be based on skills, experience, education, licenses, certifications, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. The successful candidate is typically placed toward the middle or entry point of the range.
