Senior Resident Engineer
About the Role
The Senior Resident Engineer (SRE) is the unit supervisor of two units within the District. The SRE provides direct oversight and supervision of the unit(s) and all unit staff, engineering direction for the administration and inspection of multiple, complex construction contracts/projects, ensuring the work performed conforms with construction plans and specifications and complies with local, state, and federal requirements. The SRE ensures all work complies with engineering practices, performs administrative duties including personnel and resource management, initiates and monitors safe work processes, and ensures training requirements are fulfilled for self and staff. The SRE is also responsible for the oversight and supervision of consultant engineering services.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering and technical direction for the administration of multiple, complex construction contracts to ensure work is performed to deliver a functional, durable project that meets design intent.
- Monitor and enforce safety processes.
- Perform administrative duties including personnel management, evaluation, discipline, hiring, termination, and guidance of subordinate personnel in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Set work standards within the unit to achieve maximum organizational efficiency and accomplish district and division objectives related to construction processes on ADOT projects.
- Assist in coordination of roadblocks and other supplemental duties during winter storm events and/or emergencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
- Three to five years of work-related experience in a technical-level staff position involving engineering analysis and highway construction.
- Leadership and supervisory experience.
- A valid Arizona Professional Engineer (PE) license is required. Candidates holding an active PE in another state must meet Arizona registration requirements and attain an Arizona PE within 6 months of employment.
- Possession of a current, valid, class-appropriate driver’s license, completion of required training, and passing all necessary driver’s license record checks. Employees must maintain acceptable driving records and complete all required driver training.
- If operating a personally owned vehicle on state business, maintenance of statutorily required liability insurance.
- Successful completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
