Senior Research Scientist/Engineer

About the role

nou Systems, Inc. (nSI) is seeking a Senior Research Scientist/Engineer to join our Research and Development team in Huntsville, Alabama. The ideal candidate will support and lead projects that develop and exploit new technologies, execute multiple proof-of-concept type projects, and secure funding through proposals to the Government and private funding sources.

Responsibilities

• Support and lead projects that develop and exploit new technologies
• Execute multiple proof-of-concept type projects in quick succession
• Participate in securing funding through proposals to the Government and private funding sources
• Be intimately familiar with multiple technology areas, intellectual property, and the process of evaluating technologies for product generation

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering field such as Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, or similar
• Seven years of full-time professional experience in an engineering role
• Active Secret Security Clearance
• A high degree of technical competence in one or more of the following areas: Electrical engineering, Software development (backend; one or more of Python/C++/C), Machine learning (or a combination of mathematics and computer programming), Mechanical engineering, Materials Science
• Exceptional aptitude for building tangible products
• Strong intellectual curiosity
• Demonstrated history of effective collaboration
• Demonstrated history of successful business development / bid and proposal / commercialization efforts

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to identify and parse relevant papers from academic literature
• Previous experience as a published author in the academic literature is preferred
• Demonstrated ability to architect and execute proof-of-concept experiments
• Experience working in a startup environment

Pay

Final compensation for this position is determined by a variety of factors, such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.
