About the Role

The Senior Research Fellow will play a leadership role within the Implementation to Impact (i2i) program, contributing to the design, delivery, and growth of a nationally recognised implementation science research program. The position will provide technical and research leadership in implementation science, playing a key role in the design, delivery and management of a portfolio of research projects within the Implementation to Impact program, School of Population Health. Working closely with Professor Natalie Taylor and the broader i2i leadership team, the successful candidate will contribute to advancing implementation science methods while helping translate research evidence into meaningful improvements in policy, practice and population outcomes.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work within Australia's largest dedicated implementation science research group and contribute to high-impact projects spanning cancer, genomics, child health, chronic disease, mental health, health services and health system improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to implementation science research projects from conception through to completion.
  • Provide scientific and methodological leadership across multiple projects.
  • Supervise and mentor research staff, higher degree research students and early career researchers.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with healthcare, government, community and industry partners.
  • Contribute to competitive grant applications, contracts and tender submissions.
  • Lead and contribute to high-quality publications, reports and presentations.
  • Support the growth and strategic development of the i2i program.
  • Contribute to teaching, training and capacity-building activities in implementation science.

The role reports to the Director of Implementation to Impact and will have 3-4 direct reports.

Key Skills and Experience Required

  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience, for example implementation science, public health, health services research, behavioural science, psychology, epidemiology, medicine, nursing, allied health, health policy, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience co-designing and delivering research with health services, policymakers, clinicians and consumers, including the ability to navigate complex real-world systems and competing stakeholder priorities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in implementation science, knowledge translation, health services research, quality improvement, or related fields.
  • An established track record of conducting and publishing high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining or contributing to competitive research funding.
  • Experience leading complex research projects involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience building productive partnerships with healthcare organisations, government agencies, community organisations and/or consumer groups.
  • Experience supervising staff, students, or early career researchers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with both academic and non-academic audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven organisational skills, initiative, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Commitment to research excellence, innovation, and translating evidence into real-world impact.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.

Pay

$161k – $185k base (plus 17% Super, and a leave loading)

Schedule

Full-time (35 hours a week, but part-time hours also considered on negotiation). Location: Kensington campus (flexible working, 2–3 days in the office required).
