Senior Research Coordinator

About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Coordinator to join our team. This role is responsible for initiating, coordinating, and managing research studies conducted at the Medical Center, including financial and protocol development, recruitment, enrollment, grant submissions, and study coordination. The Senior Research Coordinator performs intra-operative monitoring, serves as a liaison with funding agencies, and ensures accurate execution of research protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA, and other obligations.
Responsibilities
- Financial/Protocol Development: Develops draft budgets, monitors budgets throughout trials, and recommends staffing levels. Reviews sponsor-proposed budgets and collaborates on final budgets with study leaders. Prepares funding reports and may identify new sponsors or participate in protocol development.
- NYU Office of Clinical Trials/IRB: Oversees submission of documents to the NYU Institutional Board (IRB) and Office of Clinical Trials for human subjects research approval. Ensures protocol execution aligns with Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA, and obligations to patients, investigators, and sponsors. Monitors patient safety and submits enrollment statistics as required.
- Reporting and Data Analysis: Prepares progress reports for funding and regulatory agencies. Analyzes collected data, formulates databases, and generates measurement reports for review. Recommends changes to data fields and may oversee staff assigned to these tasks.
- Study Regulations: Maintains up-to-date regulatory documents. Assists with the informed consent process, ensuring patients/subjects understand study requirements. Monitors patient safety and reports issues to the Principal Investigator, physician, or research nurse.
- Project Management: Oversees planning and management of study activities and multiple projects. Reviews progress and initiates actions to achieve objectives.
- Grants: Oversees grant applications and related activities, including developing proposals and fundraising. Organizes required paperwork and coordinates resolution of issues for progress reports.
- Recruitment: Manages recruitment, screens potential patients/subjects for eligibility, and schedules visits. Reviews screening elements (e.g., inclusion/exclusion criteria, informed consent) with the Principal Investigator.
- Decision Making and Problem Solving: Evaluates information to prioritize tasks and solve problems. Resolves complex situations based on policies and refers unsolved issues to supervisors. Provides guidance and training to less experienced staff and may contribute to staff evaluations.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, health care administration, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience coordinating clinical or research trials.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet applications.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to interface with all levels of management and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong teamwork and independent decision-making skills.
- Excellent time management, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of coordination requirements for clinical/research trials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) Certification (required in some disciplines).
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $74,000 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
