Senior Research Associate, MEDSCH/EMERG MED SVC - 140003

About the role

The Senior Research Associate will be responsible for advanced electron microscopic research and surgical procedures to produce animal stroke models in mice and rats. The incumbent performs electron and confocal microscopic imaging analysis, molecular and biochemical analysis such as Western blotting, ELISA assays, in situ hybridization, etc. This position also performs some research data analysis and creates graphs, writes positions (e.g., materials and methods) of manuscripts, and submits manuscripts for publications.

Responsibilities

• Performs advanced electron microscopy techniques, including Serial Block-Face Electron Microscopy (SBEM) and Electron Tomography (ET).
• Performs confocal microscopy and quantitative histological analysis.
• Conducts animal stroke model creation and behavioral tests.
• Carries out molecular and biochemical analysis such as Western blotting, ELISA assays, in situ hybridization, etc.
• Performs research data analysis and writes portions of scientific manuscripts.
• Communicates methods and results to provide interpretive information to scientific investigators.

Requirements

• Knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and/or quantitative histological analysis as typically attained by an advanced degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Considerable experience with independent research/evaluation design and protocol development theory, methods, concepts, and techniques.
• Strong demonstrated ability to make and contribute important original ideas pertaining to the planning, development, modification, and execution of new research studies.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Expert knowledge of methods and techniques of compiling, analyzing and evaluating statistical and other project/research data.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific research and skills to organize and present such information at conferences and in scientific publications.
• Prior experience in writing portions of scientific manuscripts applying knowledge and understanding of the science and research projects relating to interventions.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Skills and experience with performing animal stroke models, cell cultures, gene cloning and expression, Western blotting, confocal and electron microscopic analysis.
• Skills and extensive experience in performing animal stroke models and behavioral tests.
• Skills and extensive experience in advanced electron microscopy techniques, such as Serial Block-Face Electron Microscopy (SBEM) and Electron Tomography (ET).
• Skills and extensive experience performing confocal microscopy and quantitative histological analysis.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with animal stroke models and behavioral tests.
• Experience with advanced electron microscopy techniques, such as Serial Block-Face Electron Microscopy (SBEM) and Electron Tomography (ET).
• Experience with confocal microscopy and quantitative histological analysis.
• Experience with statistical/project/research data analysis.

Skills
