About the role
The Senior Research Assistant 1 will carry out basic and preclinical research focusing on virus and host mechanisms relevant to HIV eradication in people living with HIV (PWH) on lifelong antiretroviral therapy.
Responsibilities
- Carry out experiments according to specific instructions using molecular biology technologies, viral and bacterial cultivation, and basic bioinformatics.
- Aid in planning experiments and improving the procedure for isolating latently infected primary CD4+ T cells.
- Isolate PBMCs and CD4+ T cells from peripheral blood samples, and culture these cells.
- Perform immunofluorescence flow cytometry and microscopy.
- Contribute to the scientific information generated from experiments, including performing RT-qPCR analysis and preparing figures.
- Organize samples and analyze data to support larger projects.
- Participate in lab meetings and read applicable literature.
- Maintain the lab environment and ensure compliance with biosafety and laboratory regulations.
- Manage lab supplies, including inventory and ordering.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree with 6 months of related experience, or
- Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program with 1 year of experience.
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and excellent aseptic technique.
- Strong documentation and organization skills with accurate record-keeping.
- Good analytical, statistical, and presentation skills.
- Proficient in computer software, particularly Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and graphing software like Origin or Prism.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance and interact with colleagues and supervisors.
- Willingness to learn and work with AI tools and technologies.
- Willingness to work in a biosafety level 2+ setting.
