Senior Registered Nurse Part- Time (DOH/PHD#28010)

About the role

The Public Health Nurse (PHN) advances the health of individuals, families, and communities through partnerships, collaboration, and direct care. This position supports and delivers various public health programs, which may include:

• Health Services such as Epidemiology and Response
• Tuberculosis
• STI screening, treatment, and referrals
• Immunizations
• Family Planning
• MOUD/MAT
• Emergency Preparedness
• Disease Management

The nurse uses protocols and standing orders to decide when and how to implement them for the good of the client and/or the public. Responsibilities include providing clinical support/services in the public health clinic and outreach locations, participating in community and school collaboratives, complying with federal, state, division, and regional guidelines, and maintaining general clinic flow. The role involves advising on health maintenance and disease prevention, administering nursing care autonomously, and making program-specific decisions per protocols.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical support/services in the public health clinic and outreach locations using protocols/provider orders
• Participate in community and school collaboratives
• Comply with federal, state, division, and regional guidelines
• Maintain general clinic flow
• Advise on health maintenance and disease prevention
• Administer nursing care autonomously using professional nursing principles, best practices, standing orders, and techniques
• Make program-specific decisions per protocols and prioritize client needs
• Coordinate assessments, planning, and provision of needed health-related services
• Participate in case conferences with NMDOH providers
• Provide outside referrals as appropriate

Customers

Serve community members located in the Northwest Region, particularly those who are uninsured or underinsured.

Qualifications

Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico. Three (3) years of experience pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification is required.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has:

• A current New Mexico Registered Nursing license or eligibility for licensure
• Experience delivering highly specialized public health services
• Experience ensuring adherence to clinical policies, protocols, and procedures
• Experience ensuring compliance for lab and pharmacy regulations
• Experience ensuring compliance with publicly funded vaccine programs
• Experience providing immunizations
• Experience preparing and administering medications ordered by nursing-initiated protocol, standing orders, or adjusting treatment plans based on clinician's orders
• Strong critical thinking and organizational skills
• Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
• Problem-solving skills

Employment Requirements

• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License

Working Conditions

• Services are provided in clinics, auxiliary and community sites, and occasionally in clients' homes with potential exposure to communicable diseases
• Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to video display terminals and extensive computer and phone usage
• Extended periods of office noise, bending, standing, and lifting (up to 50 lbs)
• Services are provided to diverse racial and ethnic populations, many of whom do not speak English

Pay

$36.43 - $54.65 hourly, $75,775 - $113,663 annually. This position is a Pay Band C10.
