Senior Regional Oil Market Analyst

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Lead Analyst in the oil market space to join our Commodity Markets - Oil team. This role will guide a team in providing fundamental regional market analysis and play a key part in developing our global and regional oil market coverage. The Analyst will integrate detailed crude oil and products supply and demand data, track regional trade flows, and monitor key geopolitical and economic developments. While the focus is on the Americas region, the role is part of a collaborative global team. The ideal candidate will adjust regional analysis to keep pace with rapidly changing market conditions and discuss potential market impacts on regional balances.

This position is based in Houston, though other North American locations will be considered with the understanding that travel to the U.S. will be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of analysts to monitor short-term crude oil and oil products market developments in the Americas and develop ad hoc analysis and insights for clients.
• Develop regional fundamental analysis, including crude oil and refined product supply, demand, trade flows, and inventories to create a monthly base-case forecast for scheduled reports.
• Collaborate with the global fundamentals team and other regional teams to develop cross-regional views on crude oil and oil product balances, prices, price-arbitrages, and refinery margins.
• Provide leadership on NGL/LPG market dynamics in the Americas and work with the global NGL team to develop monthly fundamentals views.
• Add insight and value to research, product development, and client-facing activities for the Americas team.
• Present research at conferences and engage with clients in commercial-led relationships.
• Engage with media through our media-relations team to broaden Rystad Energy’s brand reach.
• Generate leads for ad-hoc analysis and reports.
• Mentor team members to develop their knowledge of oil markets and support their career growth.

Requirements

• Minimum of eight years of experience in the oil insights business or an analysis role within a trading organization, downstream company, or integrated company.
• Analytical mindset and demonstrable quantitative skills.
• University degree (Master’s or Bachelor’s) in Engineering is highly valued; other technical degrees may be considered with direct industry experience in oil market analysis or oil commodity trading extending beyond crude oil into refined products.
• Demonstrated knowledge of both crude oil and refined product markets, including crude oil qualities, supply locations, values, trade flows, refined product specifications, refinery operations, refinery margins, and product trade flows.
• Strong quantitative skills, including proficiency in Python, SQL, and advanced Excel.
• Strong technical writing and excellent verbal communication skills in English.
• Proactive, independent, open-minded, creative, and collaborative with the ability to lead a diverse team effectively.
• Willingness to travel primarily within the region (potentially one full week per month) and globally as needed.
• Ability to accommodate time zones for global collaboration.
• Proficiency in Portuguese or Spanish is valued but not required.
