About the Role
The Undersea and Electronics Systems (UES) Department in Portsmouth, RI is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with a strong COTS computing and networking background to join the Hardware and Infrastructure team implementing next-generation RADAR solutions. The ideal candidate holds an active Secret clearance, is highly technical, and can work with minimal oversight while managing projects. This role acts as a key liaison between cross-functional teams to ensure technical solutions are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Design COTS hardware infrastructure systems (e.g., X86-based processors).
- Research and select servers, workstations, add-in interface cards, storage devices, and other COTS hardware.
- Engineer BIOS and operating system configuration definitions.
- Operate standard test equipment in a lab environment, including oscilloscopes, processor bus analyzers, emulators, and data capture tools.
- Perform system prototyping and integration in the lab.
- Collaborate with hardware engineering disciplines, supply chain, suppliers, field engineering, on-site installation teams, and customers to develop and deliver safety-critical systems.
- Support occasional domestic travel and potential international travel.
Requirements
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with at least 3 years of experience.
- Experience with emerging and legacy hardware and software, including Unix and Linux operating systems.
- Hands-on lab experience operating standard test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, processor bus analyzers, emulators, data capture tools).
- Experience taking a system design concept from block diagram or requirements to a complete COTS-based hardware design, followed by verification through integration and test plans.
- U.S. citizenship (required for security clearance eligibility).
- Active and existing Secret security clearance (required after day 1).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing and implementing computing, networking, and IT infrastructure through a rigorous design and documentation process.
- Collaboration experience with hardware engineering disciplines, supply chain, suppliers, field engineering, on-site installation teams, and customers for safety-critical systems.
- Current or in-progress computing/networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, AWS, CISSP).
- Experience with RADAR system hardware.
- Firewall design and configuration experience.
- Experience implementing Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and network hardening.
- System-level hardware integration and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience in Agile hardware and software development using SCRUM.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Pay
The salary range for this role is $86,800 – $165,200 USD.
