Senior Protection and Control Technician

About the role

Telex is a company that powers power systems for utilities, independent power producers, and energy innovators. We seek a Senior Protection and Control Technician who will support complex testing activities, collaborate with engineering teams, and ensure high-quality execution across substation projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, DFRs, SCADA systems, and automation systems.
• Carry out end-to-end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, and RTS.
• Execute functional and scheme testing including reclosing, breaker failure, logic schemes, and communication-assisted protection.
• Troubleshoot protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, and 8979 using Wireshark, Accelerator, and ASE 2000.
• Support the development of standardized testing procedures.
• Collaborate with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to ensure reliable project outcomes.
• Provide guidance to junior technicians when needed.

Requirements

• 1-5 years field experience in relay testing, calibration, or substation commissioning without direct supervision.
• A strong understanding of three-phase power systems and protection schemes.
• Proficiency with Omicron, Doble, Vanguard, and related test equipment.
• Skilled in RTS, Test Universe, Protection Suite, and Accelerator.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
• A valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Skills

• Technical expertise in protective relaying, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, RTS, and related test equipment.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, and 8979.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
