About the role
The Project Manager oversees the successful planning and execution of each project, serving as the main customer contact from proposal to post-delivery support. This role involves managing scope, schedule, documentation, and budget while fostering strong relationships with customers and internal teams. Additionally, this highly visible position provides daily oversight of the Silicon Valley facility and requires customer-facing interactions via in-person meetings, video conferencing, or phone.
Our projects are custom, demanding technical experience and the ability to synthesize historical data from diverse sources. This role is ideal for those who thrive in variety and dynamic environments.
Responsibilities
- Prepare proposals, evaluate estimated margins, and determine presentation strategy with management.
- Provide direction and control for multi-disciplinary project teams across all phases: concept design, system design, integration, buy-off/acceptance, and factory installation.
- Foster strong customer relationships through consistent communication, updating customers on project progress, scope, open issues, schedule, and technical challenges.
- Prepare and maintain project budgets based on quotations, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and customer Purchase Orders.
- Develop and manage project schedules for internal and customer use, coordinating all deliverables.
- Ensure all project deliverables are complete and delivered on schedule.
- Assist department managers in manpower planning for projects.
- Monitor and maintain project financial success by tracking material and labor costs and adjusting as needed.
- Identify and mitigate project risks through continuous scope review and risk mitigation planning.
- Monitor project resources to ensure alignment with cost, scope, schedule, and technical targets.
- Oversee procurement to ensure timely material delivery per project schedules.
- Schedule and manage design reviews to ensure timely execution and adherence to scope, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Provide regular job status reviews to management.
- Handle a larger number of complex projects (Senior Project Manager level).
- Support the sales process by clarifying RFQs, overseeing proposal development, and presenting proposals in coordination with Outside Sales.
- Direct the Applications Engineering group in developing proposals, including defining scope and initial design concepts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant project experience, preferably in a test and development environment.
- Solid technical knowledge, including broad understanding of electrical, software, and mechanical engineering concepts.
- Strong understanding of commercial aspects of contract engineering.
- Excellent influencing, negotiating, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate product benefits and preferences.
- Critical prioritization, organization, and multitasking abilities.
- Capacity to manage high workloads and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong initiative, proactive nature, and sense of urgency; willingness to engage even in ambiguous situations.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of intellectual property (ITAR, Prototype).

Physical Requirements
- Majority of time spent in office working conditions; ability to sit for extended periods.

- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
- Minimal travel may be required (less than 5%).
Pay
Individual base pay is based on factors such as work location, relevant experience, skills, and job duties. The pay range for this role is $120,000 - $160,000 per year. Starting salaries for well-qualified new hires are typically around the midpoint of the range.
