Senior Project Manager, Water/Wastewater Treatment

About the role

We are looking for a talented Water/Wastewater Sr. Project Manager focused on the planning and engineering design of water/wastewater infrastructure projects to join a purpose-driven organization that helps clients, colleagues, and communities thrive. You will primarily work on water/wastewater-related projects through collaboration with a wide range of technical disciplines. Our Water and Wastewater experience includes over 900 treatment plants, from some of the largest and most complex in the world to those supporting small, remote communities. With expertise in advanced treatment, automation/information management, nutrient recovery, odor control, operations and management evaluation, process review and optimization, and reclamation and reuse, we bring innovative approaches to even the most complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of design professionals and technicians.
• Mentor and supervise staff and develop high-performing project teams.
• Perform business development and application tasks, collaborating with staff to increase project wins and develop long-lasting client relationships, including:
  • Participate in business line teams to manage and develop proposals.
  • Client-facing activities for business development, including meetings, walk-downs, and presentations.
  • Develop scope of work documents and estimates.
  • Collaborate with multiple business lines to develop opportunities.
  • Conduct quality reviews.
• Assist senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
• Perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned water/wastewater-related projects through collaboration with a wide range of technical disciplines, including:
  • Design basis documents.
  • Engineering calculations including water, heat, and material balances.
  • Equipment sizing and selection.
  • Engineering drawings such as block flow diagrams (BFDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (PIDs).
  • Engineering reports and feasibility studies.
  • Presentations to clients, regulatory agencies, and/or project stakeholders.
• Assist with the management of the design and construction of projects.
• Develop project management plans for projects; establish goals and objectives for unique and complex projects.
• Responsible for successfully establishing projects to achieve budget, schedule, and contractual obligations.
• Conduct and/or coordinate quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects and facilitate independent technical reviews.
• Involved in the permitting process of projects, including meetings with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and regulatory agency personnel.
• Accountable for making decisions on large projects and coordinating with regulatory reviews to seek final approval.
• Manage projects of varying complexity within multidisciplinary teams.
• Research and understand issues related to regulatory and other drivers that impact individual projects.
• Assist business leaders in project revenue forecasting.
• Oversee proposals, including development of the scope and level of effort of comparable size.
• Undertake decisions and recommendations governed by general policy and project management governance.
• Supervise local staff and provide mentoring and coaching for future leaders, including development of succession plans for key projects.

• Ability to perform mass & energy balance and process equipment sizing calculations and coordinate with other engineering disciplines including stress/structural, instrumentation & controls, and electrical.
• Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal, and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Minimum of 15 years of related experience in project management, preferably for water/wastewater projects.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain license within 6 months.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
• Demonstrated successful experience in leadership, including defining and setting direction for a team, project, and office; strategy development; change management; and corporate stewardship.
• Travel to other offices as well as to project sites may be required.

Pay

• Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas: $128,600.00 - $192,900.00 Annually
• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas: $141,500.00 - $212,200.00 Annually
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas: $151,700.00 - $227,600.00 Annually
• Locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP): $162,000.00 - $243,100.00 Annually

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
