Senior Project Manager – Water/Wastewater
Job Summary
We're seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead and expand our Water, Wastewater, and Water Resources practice in Austin. The ideal candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams, build strong client partnerships, and deliver complex infrastructure projects while mentoring staff, driving continuous improvement, and contributing to the strategic growth of our Central Texas practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop project scopes, fee estimates, budgets, and contracts while establishing a clear understanding of project objectives and client expectations.
Lead project planning by defining project phases, schedules, staffing plans, deliverables, critical paths, and risk mitigation strategies.
Direct multidisciplinary teams to successfully deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and to HR Green's quality standards.
Conduct project kickoff and regular coordination meetings to align project teams, communicate priorities, and ensure accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
Proactively monitor project performance, identify potential risks or inefficiencies, and implement solutions that improve project delivery.
Manage scope changes, contract amendments, and change orders while protecting project profitability and maintaining strong client relationships.
Continuously evaluate project workflows and delivery processes to identify opportunities for greater efficiency, consistency, and improved project outcomes.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients by understanding their needs and consistently delivering high-quality solutions.
Identify opportunities to provide additional services that support clients' current and future infrastructure goals.
Serve as a primary point of contact for client technical staff and support strategic client management efforts alongside senior leadership.
Represent HR Green at client meetings, council sessions, committee meetings, and public presentations as needed.
Represent the firm in client interactions and help strengthen HR Green's presence within the Central Texas market.
Assist in identifying, tracking, and pursuing new project opportunities.
Meet or exceed business development goals by expanding existing client relationships and winning new work.
Lead proposal development efforts, coordinate with marketing and technical staff, and participate in interview preparation and presentations.
Support strategic pursuits and contribute to long-term market growth initiatives.
Build, lead, and develop high-performing project teams by aligning resources with project needs and individual strengths.
Create a collaborative learning environment by mentoring junior engineers and project staff, providing coaching, technical guidance, and opportunities for professional development.
Delegate responsibilities effectively while balancing staff development with successful project delivery.
Promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous improvement across project teams.
Lead project meetings, establish clear expectations, and foster accountability through proactive communication and follow-through.
Resolve conflicts constructively while maintaining positive working relationships among project team members, clients, and stakeholders.
Own the financial performance of assigned projects, including budgeting, forecasting, billing, profitability, and resource planning.
Regularly review project financial metrics to identify trends, mitigate risks, and implement corrective actions when needed.
Manage scope, contract modifications, billing issues, and cost overruns to maintain healthy project performance.
Partner with leadership to optimize staff utilization and resource allocation across projects.
Develop project tracking tools and reporting that provide visibility into project health, schedule, budget, and financial performance.
Ensure timely and accurate invoicing while proactively managing project financial performance to achieve profitability goals throughout the project lifecycle.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas.
- Has actively served in a Project Manager role for a minimum of 7 years.
- Progressive experience leading the planning, design, and construction oversight of municipal water, wastewater, and/or water resources projects for public sector clients.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple projects, budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams simultaneously.
- Experience mentoring engineering staff and fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented team environment.
- Proven ability to manage project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and profitability.
- Direct experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Client Relationship Management (CRM) software applications, like Deltek.
- Strong client relationship skills with a history of repeat business and expanding client service opportunities.
- Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify efficiencies, improve project delivery processes, and enhance team performance.
