Job Summary
The Senior Project Manager plays a critical leadership role in driving strategic capital and operational projects in our acrylic manufacturing environment. This position reports directly to the Executive Leadership Team and works in close partnership with the special work action team at one of our key factories. The role focuses on engineering-driven projects that integrate both mechanical and chemical process solutions within our manufacturing facilities. Initial efforts will center on targeted aspects of factory expansion, with opportunity to scale and lead projects across additional Spartech factories. The scope includes potential future developments.

The Senior Project Manager oversees all aspects of these complex projects—from planning and execution to monitoring and control—while leading cross-functional teams, managing budgets, mitigating risks, and delivering measurable business impact in a high-growth organization.
Requirements
- Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Leads the creation and execution of detailed project work plans, ensuring alignment across complex workstreams, and timelines, match business growth plans, and contractual deliverables
- Identifies required resources (engineering, technical, and operational) and assigns responsibilities to ensure successful delivery
- Manages day-to-day operational and technical aspects of strategic project, with emphasis on scope control in complex brownfield (and eventual greenfield) expansions
- Covers technical deliverables prepared by internal teams and contractors before stakeholder/client handoff
- Executes and enforces project management best practices and standards tailored to engineering-intensive manufacturing environments
- Prepares for engagement reviews, meeting quality assurance standards as designed by the function and related Task Force, and executive-level updates
- Minimizes project exposure and risk, particularly around chemical process safety, mechanical integrity, and regulatory compliance (much of this is covered by the Task Force so this role should support)
- Ensures all project documentation is complete, current, and properly stored
- Manages project accounting: tracks team hours/expenses weekly, controls budgets, handles revenue recognition/invoicing, and oversees cost-to-completion
- Coordinates vendor and contractor deliverables on time, on budget, and validates performance to required capability
- Facilitates effective communication with community, state, and regulatory agencies
- Motivates project teams to deliver with urgency while maintaining safety and quality standards
- Identifies opportunities for process improvement and effectively manages change in a dynamic manufacturing setting within MilSpec Standards and growth plan timelines
- Led, develops, and mentors team members; resolves and escalates issues promptly
- Travel: 25-30% (primarily domestic to other Spartech facilities)
Education And Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or related discipline) or equivalent required
- Preferred: PMP certification or equivalent advanced project management credentials
- Significant senior-level experience managing complex engineering projects in manufacturing environments involving both mechanical systems and chemical processes
- Demonstrated success leading brownfield factory expansions (primary focus), with experience or strong adaptability to greenfield developments
- 15+ years of progressive engineering-based project management experience in manufacturing (chemical/process or heavy industrial preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project (or equivalent), and related tools
- Strong technical writing, communication, and verbal presentation skills, including executive-level reporting
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Deep understanding of safety standards in chemical and mechanical manufacturing; holds teams and contractors accountable to exceed expectations
- Strong financial acumen: understands revenue models, P&L impact, and cost-to-completion projections; makes data-driven decisions
- Proven ability to lead proposal efforts, convey technical value, and facilitate cross-functional and executive meetings
- Excellent issue resolution, stakeholder management, and change leadership capabilities
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary contractors (electrical, mechanical, chemical/process, construction)
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal leadership, special action teams, and external regulatory bodies
