About the role
The Senior Project Manager will lead and mentor a team to deliver complex commercial construction projects, focusing on mission-critical facilities such as hyperscale data centers, industrial developments, and similar technically complex projects.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance contractor relationships to build new Berg business and participate in new market development.
- Full review of the contract with the Project Manager before submission to the Senior Leadership Team for sign-off.
- Attend pre-construction meetings to understand the complete scope while ensuring safety, quality, and production standards are met.
- Review scope of work and identify potential risks or gaps from estimate to award.
- Maintain strong knowledge of projects and exceed set standards for their portfolio.
- Lead preconstruction planning efforts including procurement strategy, subcontractor evaluation, vendor selection, constructability reviews, and long-lead material planning.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations, field leadership, and project stakeholders to ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Give advice and direction as needed to the Project Team, project manpower needs, and end-to-end delivery of complex commercial and mission-critical construction projects.
- Develop and manage integrated project schedules while monitoring project performance against key milestones and implementing recovery plans when necessary.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, particularly focusing on critical-path activities, schedule impacts, procurement challenges, and long-lead equipment.
- Lead project reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve future project delivery.
- Develop and maintain integrated master schedules encompassing design, procurement, construction, commissioning, turnover, and operational readiness while proactively managing schedule risks and recovery planning.
- Involvement in strategic planning to ensure project profitability, communication with the CFO & Executive Team, and managing the cash flow to be positioned for success.
- Review WIP and billing, own project budgets, cost forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management, contingency planning, change control, and project financial closeout throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participation in the development and execution of Berg’s strategic and business plan, including achievement of key objectives.
- Establish and develop relationships with employees, executive leadership, clients, contractors, consultants, commissioning partners, equipment vendors, and external stakeholders.
- Support and continuous improvement of Berg’s high-performance culture, providing visionary leadership for new ideas and approaches, and promoting a culture of safety, quality, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10+ years of project management experience delivering large-scale commercial construction, infrastructure, or mission-critical projects.
- Demonstrated experience delivering mission-critical facilities, hyperscale data centers, industrial developments, semiconductor facilities, energy infrastructure, healthcare, or similarly complex construction projects.
- Strong understanding of CSA (Civil, Structural & Architectural) and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) project delivery.
- Ability to read and comprehend complex construction documents, including blueprints.
- Experience with estimating software, such as Plexxis.
- Effective communication skills with internal and external clients and customers.
- Proficiency in financials and presentation skills.
- Strong computer skills, proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook, Mac iPad.
Experience and Qualifications
- Technical degree and minimum 8+ years of related experience in the construction field, or an equivalent mix of education and field experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management.
- Detail-oriented, deadline/goal-driven.
- Experience managing integrated project schedules across design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness.
- Experience managing relationships with owners, general contractors, consultants, commissioning agents, equipment vendors, and utility providers.
- Experience managing projects ranging from several million dollars to large-scale commercial or mission-critical construction programs.
- Sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10-15 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying.
- Ability to complete regular day travel for site visits and client meetings.
