Senior Project Manager (Coal Combustion Residuals)

Location & Travel

This field-based position is located in Birmingham, AL, and supports worksites throughout the assigned project area. The role requires approximately 75% travel or temporary relocation to project sites. A vehicle allowance, fuel card, and per diem for meals and lodging will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain focus on meeting or exceeding client needs and expectations for assigned projects.
  • Plan, organize, and staff key field positions in collaboration with organizational leadership.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within corporate guidelines.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to facilitate construction activities.
  • Monitor and control construction progress to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget; implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Represent the company in meetings, labor negotiations, and strategy discussions.
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts, including fee payments, rental equipment, and income/expenses, while maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate project activities, resolve problem areas, and ensure adherence to company policies and standards.
  • Maintain communication with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to align construction activities with project schedules and requirements.
  • Represent the company at project meetings and interpret project designs/drawings for crafts installing materials.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and subcontractor needs; resolve drawing interpretation issues, conflicts, or interferences.
  • Prepare and submit field design change requisitions, "as-built" drawings, status reports, punch lists, and other documentation.
  • Provide supervision or technical direction to engineers, crafts, and superintendents to ensure proper work sequencing.
  • Present design discrepancies to engineers for resolution and prepare necessary documentation (e.g., field design change requests).
  • Establish building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and material installation.
  • Monitor construction progress to prepare monthly billings based on contractual agreements and completed work.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested by the Division Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or equivalent field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a senior construction project management role, with a focus on Heavy Civil projects.
  • Preferred experience in CCR (Coal Combustion Residuals).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and construction software such as Hard Dollar, Bid Build, Heavy Build, MS Project, or Primavera.
  • Understanding of civil engineering design, construction methods, and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of mass grading, earthwork, stream restoration, stormwater management, erosion control, and utility infrastructure.
  • Experience with job costing, scheduling, and estimating contract changes.
  • Ability to apply innovative management techniques to maximize project performance.
  • Strong attention to detail, multitasking abilities, and a strong work ethic.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before clients, management, and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to organize multiple streams of information and manage priorities to meet deadlines.
