About the role

We are seeking a skilled, resourceful, and collaborative Civil or Environmental Engineer with solid waste engineering experience to join our team as a Senior Project Manager. This leadership position will develop and secure project work to grow the firm’s solid waste presence, manage a team of engineers and scientists, and contribute to overall firm growth. The right individual may have opportunities for firm ownership. This is a fast-paced, dynamic role with professional growth potential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical strategies and oversee production of technical work products.
  • Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare engineering drawings, perform calculations, and integrate with other engineering software.
  • Use engineering software to prepare calculations supporting stormwater management, hydrology, drainage designs, slope stability evaluations, and other design projects.
  • Coordinate with project team members and clients.
  • Interpret and analyze field and laboratory data.
  • Oversee preparation of technical reports, data tables, specifications, and other deliverables.
  • Serve as an Engineer-of-Record.
  • Manage projects both financially and technically.
  • Manage and supervise staff engineers and scientists.
  • Prepare proposals and project budgets.
  • Secure and develop clientele and serve as primary client manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience (focus specifically related to solid waste) and a BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or 8 years relevant experience (preferred focus specifically related to solid waste).
  • MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure or ability to secure within 6 months.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail with expertise in solid waste permitting, design, and operations.
  • Experience in landfill design/permitting, stormwater management, leachate and landfill gas management, geotechnical and groundwater engineering, geosynthetics, and associated construction.
  • Knowledge of transfer station, recycling facility, and leachate treatment operations.
  • Strong organizational, supervisory, mentoring, and time management skills with flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Client-service orientation with ability to anticipate needs and deliver results.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative communication style and ability to work well in a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires sitting, walking, bending, and prolonged standing.
  • Must be able to visit project sites, climb ladders and stairs as required.
  • Work involves both indoor and outdoor activity in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear and work in personal protective equipment as required.
  • Substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers required.
  • Close visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Hybrid or fully remote, depending on candidate location.
  • Office locations: Burlington, VT (Preferred); Bedford, NH (Preferred); Boston, MA; Horsham, PA; or Wilmington, DE — or fully remote.
  • Occasional travel as needed (less than 25%).

Pay

The expected base salary range for this position is $118,000 to $140,000 per year. Specific compensation will be based on factors such as experience, education, training, qualifications, and work location.

Supplemental pay: Annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
