About the Role

A leading national provider of engineering, construction, testing, and technical services to the electric utility, power generation, industrial, renewable energy, and energy sectors is seeking an experienced Project Manager. The Project Manager will oversee the development, planning, execution, and monitoring of turnkey construction projects involving high-voltage electrical substations, transmission lines, and distribution lines, with accountability for project cost, schedule, safety, quality, commercial performance, and successful completion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development, planning, execution, and monitoring of high-voltage substation, transmission, and distribution construction projects.
  • Take overall accountability for project cost, schedule, safety, quality, and successful completion.
  • Manage multiple project teams and coordinate activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and other project controls.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Procurement teams to ensure materials and equipment are expedited and delivered in line with construction requirements.
  • Monitor material requirements and address procurement or delivery issues that could affect project schedules.
  • Prepare and maintain project cash flow forecasts.
  • Manage monthly project billing and associated commercial documentation.
  • Prepare, negotiate, obtain, and administer project change orders.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly construction progress reports, cost re-projections, project files, and other required documentation.
  • Monitor project financial performance and identify potential cost or schedule variances.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and other project functions to support successful project delivery.
  • Resolve interdepartmental conflicts, project issues, construction delays, and other constraints affecting project objectives.
  • Maintain effective communication with project teams, clients, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure project activities comply with applicable safety and quality requirements.
  • Support project teams in identifying risks and implementing appropriate mitigation and recovery measures.
  • Travel to project sites and other locations for meetings, inspections, and project activities as required.
  • Perform additional project management responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the design, construction, or operation of electrical substations and/or transmission lines.
  • Significant experience managing high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Approximately 10 years of experience supervising or managing project budgets and work groups is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of electrical substations, substation control systems, and transmission systems.
  • Strong understanding of project financial management, including budgets, cash flow, forecasting, billing, and change management.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to resolve project conflicts and construction delays while maintaining project objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based, with occasional exposure to outdoor project-site conditions.
  • Ability to work at a desk and computer for extended periods.
  • Approximately 10% overnight travel may be required for project activities, meetings, or training.
  • Extended working hours or weekend work may occasionally be required depending on project needs.
