FLSA Classification: Exempt | Travel: Up to 40%

About the Role

The Environmental + Regulatory Senior Project Manager will oversee the current E+R Team, their training and development, as well as project oversight. This role involves assisting in planning, organizing, and implementing policies, guidelines, and procedures related to Environmental + Regulatory compliance. Core functions include regulatory permit management, compliance and enforcement, analytical data, regulatory agency partnerships, and environmental documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Project Management (50%)
    • Develop and maintain effective professional relationships and promote the company’s reputation with Federal, State, and Local agencies and employees.
    • Serve as subject matter expert and resource for clients and the internal team.
    • Provide day-to-day leadership to ensure a high-performance, client-focused work environment aligned with the company’s mission, strategic plan, objectives, and values.
    • Work with E+R team members, clients, and internal/external project managers to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
    • Support multiple projects simultaneously, often in various phases.
    • Oversee the strategy, development, content, and QA/QC of documents, maps, applications, etc., before submission.
    • Assist with project budget and proposal development.
  • Team Training and Optimization (25%)
    • Establish and adapt standardization practices as the team grows.
    • Lead personnel by teaching the team to manage projects effectively and efficiently.
    • Build and strengthen a library of applicable resources to ensure the production of quality documents efficiently.
    • Review changes to existing regulations and standard operating procedures (SOP) to define requirements for regulatory submissions.
    • Apply continuous improvement principles in deploying regulatory and environmental business plans, processes, and performance measures.
    • Mentor and enforce departmental policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Business Development (15%)
    • Serve as the main point of contact for personal/incoming customer base.
    • Assist with and lead new customer business development efforts, leveraging existing connections.
    • Research and network in new/emerging markets to expand into new sectors and capabilities.
    • Participate in conferences, trade groups, and other external leadership roles.
  • Business Unit Optimization (10%)
    • Train others in processes and procedures and ensure the team is updated on changes, trends, and court rulings surrounding environmental regulations.
    • Assist the Business Unit Leader (BUL) in mentoring team members in leadership, team building, and personal/professional development.
    • Assist with developing budgets, department policies, and procedures with the BUL.
    • Establish policies and procedures to ensure compliance with existing regulations.
    • Analyze new or changing regulations and court decisions, coordinating with the BUL to develop strategies for operational changes.
    • Assist in preparing reviews, personnel reports, management updates, project status reports, and related documentation.
    • Contribute to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the team in collaboration with the BUL.

Requirements

  • Subject matter expertise in Federal, State, and Local environmental regulatory policy, law, regulation, and court decisions relevant to client projects.
  • Ability to analyze and make recommendations on complex environmental, regulatory, water quality, and administrative issues.
  • Superb leadership skills, including work planning, assignment review and evaluation, discipline, and personnel training.
  • Effective management and communication skills for working with diverse clients in both public and private sectors.
  • Ability to develop and implement goals, objectives, practices, policies, and high work standards for self and the team.
  • Experience in selecting, supervising, and training a team, ensuring work is performed effectively and evaluated objectively.
  • Understanding of cross-functional development and team building to foster smooth teamwork.
  • Ability to represent the company in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, business organizations, and regulatory bodies.
  • Expert verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
