Senior Project Engineer

About the role

Serve as or support Project Manager on large highway and/or bridge construction projects. Manage contract administration and CEI operations according to DOT contract documents, procedures, specifications, and manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret plans, specifications, construction schedules, and other construction documents for clarity, completeness, sequence, and constructability
  • Facilitate continuous coordination between all stakeholders
  • Organize and conduct pre-construction meetings
  • Chair weekly construction progress meetings as appropriate
  • Coordinate with Project Manager to monitor CEI budget
  • Take corrective action as required to manage staffing and schedule
  • Conduct or facilitate the review of Shop Drawings and RFI's to support successful project
  • Evaluate and process contractors' request for payment as directed by Project Manager
  • Administer the change order process; review requests for schedule or cost adjustments and negotiate changes to the contract; prepare change order documents for approval
  • Provide guidance and direction as needed to CEI project staff
  • Implement and oversee compliance with administrative and business operations activities including human resources, training programs, inventory, safety, and budget monitoring
  • Maintain effective client relationships and leverage project experience to win work
  • Aid in the coordination, development, and production of proposals, SOQs, and presentations, ensuring the highest quality of information and documentation output
  • Review implementation of established procedures and implement preventive and corrective actions

Requirements

  • Licensed Florida Professional Engineer required
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience as a Project Engineer and/or Resident Engineer on roadway and bridge construction projects in Florida
  • Extensive transportation business development work experience required
  • Capable of leading a project team
  • Thorough knowledge of Client / FDOT specifications and standards required
  • Experience with Site Manager, Primavera, or other scheduling software preferred
  • Proficient in MS Word / Excel / Outlook
  • Motivated to develop business from new and existing clients
  • Extensive understanding of construction standards and practices
  • Skilled in construction document handling and administration
  • Skilled in organizing and managing cost estimating, bidding, and scheduling procedures
  • Skilled in documenting and assessing field conditions, RFIs, and change orders
  • Able to manage sub-contractors and manpower and delegate tasks to complete goals, objectives, and schedules
  • Project management experience
  • Flexibility to travel to construction sites for extended periods and work outside of normal business hours

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of Client / FDOT specifications and standards
  • Experience with Site Manager, Primavera, or other scheduling software
  • Proficiency in MS Word / Excel / Outlook
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of construction standards and practices
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team
