Senior Project Engineer

About the Role
Provide technical advice and guidance for all phases of assigned large and complex Engineering projects and programs, ensuring successful completion within appropriate timeframes and budgets. This role involves managing projects, serving as a subject matter expert (SME) for site planning, construction, expansions, or modifications, and contributing to strategic planning and budgeting efforts.
Responsibilities
- Review, investigate, and develop recommendations for assigned Engineering projects.
- Manage projects and serve as an SME on large or complex site planning, construction, expansions, or modifications.
- Provide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable processes, practices, and existing or proposed local, state, and federal regulations.
- Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated Engineering areas.
- Develop and evaluate Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) requests for capital funding.
- Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for services and equipment, as needed.
- Represent the site on company-sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in Engineering or a related field, OR
- Master’s degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of Engineering principles and practices.
- Ability to research and analyze complex information and draw valid conclusions.
- Skilled in managing large and complex Engineering projects.
- Ability to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement.
- Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions, with a commitment to following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred: Advanced degree or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification.
Working Conditions
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
- Must be able to communicate in English regarding job assignments, procedures, and safety standards.
- Work environment may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.
- Regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms.
- Occasionally required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds).
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and other gear as needed (e.g., respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves).
- May be required to work a non-standard schedule, including shift work, in a 24/7, 365-day operation.
- Freeport-McMoRan maintains a drug/alcohol-free workplace through mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing, as permitted by applicable laws.
Pay
The estimated annual pay range for this role is $97,500–$138,000 (base salary only). This range does not include bonus payments, benefits, or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors. The role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payments based on company and individual performance.
