About the role
The Senior Project Accountant at Skender is responsible for overseeing project accounting, monitoring progress, and ensuring compliance with contracts and purchase orders. This position requires a minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction accounting, and a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key point of accountability for accuracy and compliance with subcontracts and purchase orders in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Review project specifications to support accurate and complete schedules of values.
- Exercise independent judgement on complex issues as you partner with Risk Management to review and approve subcontractor or vendor revisions to company terms and conditions.
- Oversee project compliance through collection, tracking, and submission of certified payroll, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
- Lead collaboration with Project Management to prepare monthly payment applications and required project documentation, ensuring quality and consistency across the project portfolio.
- Track, enter, and validate all costs related to subcontractors and key suppliers, while identifying trends and flagging risks before they escalate.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience required; construction accounting experience preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated experience with Procore, certified payroll reporting, and MBE/WBE tracking required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

- Industry Knowledge: Thorough understanding of construction project workflows, contract structures, and how financial performance connects to project outcomes.
