About the role

As a Senior Product Manager, Portfolio & Pricing Strategy at Doubtless Pet Insurance - North America, you will play a critical role within the Product Center of Excellence (CoE), leading the performance, profitability, and strategic direction of a portfolio of pet insurance products, including Pet’s Best, Embrace, and Pet Partners, Inc. (PPI). This role serves as the business owner of portfolio performance, responsible for identifying and executing strategies that optimize growth, profitability, retention, and competitive positioning across brands, distribution channels, and market segments.

Leveraging analytics, market intelligence, actuarial insights, and customer performance data, you will develop strategic recommendations that influence product, pricing, underwriting, and distribution decisions. Collaborating closely with Underwriting, Actuarial, Data Science, Marketing, and Growth teams, while partnering with MGA organizations and their Operations, Distribution, and other key teams, you will evaluate portfolio performance, assess emerging opportunities and risks, and develop initiatives that drive sustainable, profitable growth.

The ideal candidate combines strong insurance expertise with a deep understanding of portfolio management, pricing strategy, predictive analytics, and business performance management. Experience utilizing GLM outputs, data science models, and profitability analysis to influence business strategy is strongly preferred.

Job Location: Remote – USA or Hybrid in Chicago, IL or New York, NY with a strong preference for Hybrid candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Own the financial and strategic performance of assigned portfolios, proactively identifying opportunities to improve growth, profitability, retention, customer lifetime value, and overall portfolio economics.
  • Evaluate portfolio trends, customer behavior, emerging risks, and market conditions to inform pricing, underwriting, segmentation, product configuration, and distribution strategies.
  • Partner with senior leaders to establish objectives, performance targets, and strategic initiatives, and lead portfolio reviews that communicate performance drivers, risks, and recommendations.
  • Leverage GLM outputs, actuarial analyses, predictive models, and customer analytics to drive portfolio strategy and identify profitable market opportunities and customer segments.
  • Evaluate pricing performance and assess the business impact of proposed pricing, underwriting, product, and distribution changes in partnership with Actuarial and Underwriting teams.
  • Develop business cases, financial models, scenario analyses, and KPIs, translating complex analytical findings into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the pet insurance marketplace, competitive landscape, consumer trends, and regulatory developments.
  • Analyze competitor products, pricing, underwriting practices, and market positioning to identify opportunities to strengthen competitiveness, customer value, market share, and long-term growth.
  • Partner across Actuarial, Underwriting, Data Science, Finance, Product Operations, Compliance, and MGA teams to drive portfolio performance and profitability initiatives.
  • Serve as the business lead for portfolio strategy, aligning stakeholders on priorities, implementation plans, forecasting, and strategic planning through data-driven recommendations and executive communication.
  • Support the evaluation, prioritization, and implementation of product enhancements, coverage changes, innovation opportunities, and new product launches that improve portfolio performance.
  • Partner with Product Operations and Delivery teams to define requirements, provide profitability expertise throughout the development lifecycle, and evaluate post-implementation results for ongoing optimization.
  • Partner with Product Operations, Compliance, and Legal teams to support regulatory filings, product implementations, and ongoing compliance activities.

Success in this role

After the first 12 months, you will:

  • Establish a deep understanding of the Pets Best, Embrace, and PPI portfolio performance drivers.
  • Deliver actionable portfolio strategies that improve profitability, growth, retention, and customer value.
  • Influence key pricing, underwriting, segmentation, and distribution decisions using advanced analytics and business insights.
  • Partner effectively across Product, Underwriting, Actuarial, Data Science, and Distribution teams to execute strategic initiatives.
  • Deliver measurable improvements in portfolio performance through data-driven recommendations and strategic action plans.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Insurance, Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5-8+ years of experience in insurance portfolio management, product management, pricing, actuarial, underwriting, or business analytics.
  • Strong understanding of insurance profitability drivers, pricing methodologies, underwriting principles, and portfolio management concepts.
  • Experience analyzing product performance and developing strategies that improve financial outcomes.
  • Ability to interpret and apply data science, actuarial, and predictive modeling outputs to business decisions.
  • Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and performance analytics tools.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pet insurance, personal lines, or specialty insurance products.
  • Experience working with MGA and carrier business models.
  • Familiarity with GLM modeling and pricing methodologies.
  • CPCU, ACAS/FCAS, ARM, MBA, or similar professional designation.
  • Experience supporting rate filings, pricing initiatives, or regulatory implementations.
