About the role
The Senior Product Designer will join the Design System team at Klaviyo, helping to evolve Ascent, our design system. The role involves defining and scaling reusable components, patterns, tokens, documentation, and standards to enhance product consistency and usability.
Responsibilities
- Evolve Ascent's components, patterns, tokens, interaction standards, and documentation across Klaviyo's product surfaces.
- Partner with engineering to improve design-to-code parity and ensure coded components reflect design intent.
- Identify inconsistencies, gaps, and duplicated patterns across product teams, then turn them into scalable system improvements.
- Own the end-to-end design process from conceptualization to discovery, and in some cases all the way to implementation.
- Support adoption through clear guidance, design critiques, spec reviews, office hours, workshops, and release communications.
- Use AI and automation to accelerate prototyping, documentation, design specs, accessibility checks, visual QA, and system maintenance.
Requirements
- Strong product design experience with a portfolio showcasing high-quality UX, interaction, and visual design craft.
- Experience building, maintaining, or scaling a design system within a complex product organization.
- Strong systems thinking, able to spot patterns, simplify complexity, and design for reuse across large product surfaces.
- Working knowledge of design tokens, accessibility standards such as WCAG, and how system decisions map to frontend implementation.
- Ability to partner deeply with engineers, product managers, brand designers, writers, and stakeholders to align teams without relying on authority.
- AI-first builder mindset, using tools like Claude, Cursor, v0, Figma Make or similar to explore ideas, prototype, generate code, and improve system workflows.
Qualifications
- Expertise in Figma component architecture, variables, styles, libraries, and scalable design workflows.
- Experience with complex, data-rich SaaS products is a plus.
Skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with Git for version control.
- Understanding of design tokens and accessibility standards.
- Proficiency with Figma and related design tools.
