About the Role
Directs and coordinates all technical functions relating to an assigned family of products and/or major design projects.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes research data or customer specifications and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal.
- Prepares work-plans, cost estimates, project budgets, and schedules for major design projects. Reports adherence to schedule, budget, and technical requirements.
- Confers with customer service, product management, and customers to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.
- Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics, including establishment of new part numbers, bills of material, and configuration rules.
- Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
- Plans and develops experimental test programs or prepares or directs preparation of analysis to verify design adequacy.
- Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Prepares or coordinates preparation of test reports for newly performed tests.
- Understands DFMEA, DFMA, and VAVE principles. Participates and drives NPD, NPI projects, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to meet targets.
- Prepares or directs preparation of instruction manuals, illustrations, and other technical information for projects and general sales literature.
- Supports and reviews marketing materials for technical accuracy.
- Analyzes product performance problems and dispositions customer returns. Recommends solutions to satisfy customer requirements.
- Prepares reports for internal use or for distribution to customers.
- Prepares work instructions and department procedures.
- Performs training on products and procedures in area of expertise.
- Dispositions nonconforming material or products and initiates corrective action.
- Reviews work performed by subordinates or other engineers for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards.
- Uses 3D CAD (Creo) software and PLM (Windchill) tools to perform engineering and design tasks.
- Knowledge of patent and trademark filings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.S. in Engineering) from a four-year college or university and five to ten years of related experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Skills
- Ability to apply common engineering principles.
- Understanding of stress and strain, torsion, bending, fatigue, buckling, fluid mechanics, and material science.
- Familiar with ANSI Y14.5 drawing and GD&T standards.
- Working knowledge of 3D CAD engineering software (PTC Creo preferred) and PLM (Windchill preferred).
- Working knowledge of ERP (SAP preferred).
- Ability to utilize a custom MS Office environment.
Pay
Equal Pay Act Range: $116,400.00 to $163,600.00, plus benefits and potential bonus.
