Senior Product Design Engineer

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead design activities, manage regulatory requirements and compliance, and provide testing and verification for development and industrialization of low-voltage distribution equipment or switching devices (SWD) at the Cleveland TN and Juarez MX manufacturing facilities.
  • Execute design, development, and related technical tasks required to maintain the product line.
  • Lead sustaining engineering activities over specific products related to electrical switch designs and breaker enclosures.
  • Evaluate quality metrics related to product designs and develop plans to mitigate potential product issues.
  • Lead meetings with production, operations, and quality to review production issues related to product design.
  • Initiate and prepare specifications for products, equipment, and processes while maintaining awareness of and control of costs according to project scope.
  • Maintain design engineering cost budget for each project and track project costs (material, services, and labor) to plan.
  • Assume responsibility for appropriate testing and evaluation of products, parts, equipment, tools, and systems along with necessary corrective follow-up.
  • Lead completion of pFMEA’s, Special Characteristic identification, relevant ISO procedures, engineering work instructions as well as Eaton’s Environmental Health and Safety Process (MESH) associated with design introduction and changes.
  • Prepare and write articles for technical publications and prepare patent disclosures for identified IP in product designs.
  • Participate as a key member on facility and product engineering teams.
  • Represent Eaton with standards organizations (UL, CSA, NEMA) to understand and effect changes to the standard that support Eaton initiatives and values - as directed by the engineering manager.
  • Obtain Six Sigma Greenbelt and mentor other Six Sigma candidates.
  • Main contact for UL/CSA factory inspections - as directed by engineering manager.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and designers in the US, India, and Mexico.

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Minimum 3 years experience in product design or electrical distribution products.
  • Prefered Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. Experience with CAD systems. Experience with drawing vault software. Experience leading teams or coordinating production. Experience designing breaker or switches. Design and testing to IEEE, UL, CSA, or IEC standards. Design verification through analysis and test. Six Sigma Greenbelt.
