About The Team

DoorDash's Legal Team has built a reputation within the company for our collaborative approach to counseling, always with a bias for action. We are a diverse group of lawyers with a shared passion for providing creative and excellent service to our business partners. We go above and beyond to help accelerate and protect the business, and above all else, we value each other as teammates. We're looking for a team player who can work across the legal team and the broader company. Join us!

About The Role

DoorDash is hiring an experienced Senior Counsel to join our dynamic legal team at a very exciting time for our expanding business. You will join the Product Legal team that supports Dasher Logistics, DoorDash Commerce Platform, and Labs. You will support AI Data Services and Dasher Tasks, which sit under the Dasher Logistics org. You will have a broad range of responsibilities and will own projects that drive an immediate impact. You will provide guidance across a wide range of legal issues domestically and internationally, including worker classification, AI and data governance, privacy, consumer protection, intellectual property, and regulatory. Your clients will include first-in-class product managers, operators, engineers, and data scientists, among others.

What You Will Do

  • Provide solution-oriented advice and legal direction to a wide variety of teams from the initial stages of project development to launch.
  • Collaborate with business partners to effectively manage legal risks related to product, operational, and engineering initiatives.
  • Independently develop practical guidance on issues relating to worker classification, AI and data governance, privacy, intellectual property and data licensing, and consumer protection.
  • Work closely with other members of the legal team - across commercial, litigation, corporate, employment, IP, and privacy - to ensure your business partners receive holistic and effective legal guidance across disciplines.
  • Serve as cross-functional connective tissue and help gain consensus across the non-legal teams you work with.
  • Build playbooks and establish processes to help scale our advice as a legal team.

What You Bring

  • You have a business-first mentality, strong legal judgment, and the ability to make decisions in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment with imperfect information.
  • You are skilled at managing a high volume of requests from a wide range of client teams and balancing competing priorities with limited direction.
  • You understand complicated areas of law and apply them to a complex business.
  • You have deep privacy expertise (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, biometric and sensitive data).
  • You are excited to work on products that incorporate AI and to leverage AI tools to enhance your work.
  • You are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment and have prioritized participating in DEI initiatives in past roles.
  • You have a philosophy that no task is too big or small and an interest in learning and growth.
  • You are a self-starter; you’re intrinsically motivated but also a good, collaborative teammate.
  • You have interests/passions outside of work that are important to you.
  • You have 8+ years legal experience.
  • You have prior experience at an in-house legal department.
  • You are authorized to practice law in the U.S. state where you are located.
  • Bonus points: Previous product counseling experience, experience in the tech industry or the on-demand economy, familiarity with AI/ML development, experience with data licensing, IP, or commercial agreements, knowledge of worker classification frameworks and gig/independent contractor issues, experience advising on novel products or business lines without clear precedent.

What We Offer

  • Compensation: Starting pay within the range of $214,200—$315,000 USD, depending on experience and location.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including a 401(k) plan with employer matching, 16 weeks of paid parental leave, wellness benefits, commuter benefits match, paid time off and paid sick leave, medical, dental, and vision benefits, 11 paid holidays, disability and basic life insurance, family-forming assistance, and a mental health program.
  • Paid Time Off: Flexible paid time off/vacation, plus 80 hours of paid sick time per year for salaried roles; about 6.7 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 3.4 hours/month if working 20 hours/week, and paid sick time accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked (about 5.8 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 2.9 hours/month if working 20 hours/week) for hourly roles.
