Senior Process Mechanical Estimator - Water

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate P&IDs, mechanical equipment schedules, process piping layouts, and construction sequencing
  • Develop project budgets and competitive bid proposals
  • Perform risk assessments and identify potential cost or schedule impacts
  • Support value-engineering efforts to optimize project performance and cost
  • Apply strong technical knowledge of process mechanical systems, including pumps, piping, valves, chemical feed systems, aeration, grit removal, and other treatment equipment
  • Utilize estimating software and construction methodologies to produce accurate, detailed estimates
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients
  • Maintain strong organizational and analytical practices to ensure thorough and accurate project documentation
  • Review and interpret construction documents, including P&IDs, mechanical drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules for water/wastewater treatment projects and/or industrial water projects
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for process mechanical systems (pumps, piping, valves, chemical feed, aeration, tanks, basins, etc.)
  • Develop accurate material, labor, and equipment cost estimates for new-construction treatment facilities and major process upgrades
  • Solicit, scope, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals to ensure alignment with project requirements
  • Prepare complete bid packages, including pricing summaries, clarifications, exclusions, and risk assessments
  • Participate in constructability reviews and collaborate with engineering, operations, and project management to ensure accurate assumptions
  • Support value-engineering efforts by identifying cost-saving alternatives without compromising design intent or performance
  • Track historical cost data to support continuous improvement of estimating accuracy
  • Assist preconstruction and project teams during handoff, procurement, and early planning phases as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or accredited construction-related curriculum
  • A minimum of 5 years of estimating experience preferred or 15 years of relevant experience in the construction industry

Education/Experience

  • Professional experience estimating process mechanical scopes for water/wastewater treatment facility construction and/or industrial water projects
  • Working knowledge of treatment processes and major equipment types, including clarifiers, blowers, pumps, chemical feed systems, aeration, and solids handling
  • Estimating software experience required, Beck Destini Estimator and FastPIPE preferred
  • Proficiency with construction estimating software and Excel-based estimating tools
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods for mechanical installation, including rigging, piping, equipment setting, and startup requirements
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with vendors, subcontractors, engineers, and internal teams
  • Experience with Design-Build and CMAR (Construction Manager at Risk) project delivery methods
  • Proven computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with Revit and Navisworks preferred

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations;
  • The ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds;
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information.
  • The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
