Senior Process Engineer - Visual Inspection

ASML · Wilton Center, CT · 4 wk ago
On-siteDesignFull-time

About the Role

The Senior Process Engineer will serve as a technical leader within ASML Wilton's Factory Optics team, owning visual inspection processes end-to-end. This role focuses on process development, stabilization, and daily performance across automated and manual visual inspection operations. The engineer will drive sustainable improvements to support output, yield, and quality targets—particularly First Pass Yield (FPY)—through stable, predictable, and well-controlled process behavior. A proactive engineering mindset is essential, emphasizing foresight, structured problem-solving, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Define and optimize process parameters, ensuring measurement stability and consistent results across tools, people, and shifts.
  • Manage visual inspection performance, control strategies, and output quality, including tooling, environment, fixturing, and other influencing factors.
  • Lead the introduction and qualification of new fixtures, tools, software, manual processes, and machine upgrades.
  • Convert surface inspection data into actionable decisions to improve process control.
  • Establish and maintain process windows, capability targets, and long-term monitoring systems using JMP or Minitab.
  • Identify variation, drift, and chronic stability risks to ensure robust, documented, and repeatable processes.
  • Maintain process specifications, work instructions, and standard work while driving alignment across production and support teams.
  • Collaborate daily with production technicians, supervisors, cross-functional teams, quality, equipment engineering, and maintenance.
  • Build process stability to prevent rework and FPY loss, eliminating sources of variation impacting yield.
  • Lead structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using statistical and analytical methods.
  • Ensure corrective actions are verified, embedded, and sustainable.
  • Own full 6P readiness for process, material, or equipment changes.
  • Proactively evaluate and integrate advanced inspection tools, next-generation technologies, and equipment/software capabilities to improve stability, predictability, and throughput.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical, Optical, Materials, or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in optical fabrication and visual inspection.
  • Experience with tooling mechanics, Mil and ISO inspection standards, and process development.
  • Demonstrated ability in structured problem-solving, data analysis, RCA, and process improvement.
  • Strong understanding of Mil and ISO visual inspection standards and tooling mechanics for accurate measurements.
  • Proficiency with manual and automated visual inspection tools.
  • Experience using JMP, Minitab, or equivalent statistical software.
  • Strong communication, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership skills in a production environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Demonstrated capability in 6P readiness, structured RCA, and verification-driven corrective action.

Physical Requirements

  • Work includes time spent on the fabrication floor, interaction with visual inspection equipment, and periods of standing or walking.
  • May require lifting materials up to 35 pounds.
  • Visual acuity for inspection tasks is required.
  • Exposure to noise, vibration, and manufacturing equipment while wearing appropriate PPE (e.g., coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, gloves).
  • Must be willing to work in a cleanroom environment.
  • Potential exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage, and currents.

Additional Information

This position requires access to controlled technology as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future and must be eligible to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work.
